I really miss those two. Southpark just never had the same level of inaneness.

Had a request for an updated shot of (part of) Ze Kollection, if you would be so kind...? May I be so bold as to suggest the North Wing...? or maybe the Thunderbird Gallery... ;)

They are making waves, three albums out, each one selling more than the predecessor. I always thought they were some horrific Thrash Metal band with grunty vocals (in fact they never grunt) before I heard them, but they are melodic to the point of (dark) pop. There is even a certain early BÖC and Doors influence, eerie but sweet.

Turbonegro did it first and better in Norway, with more punk and sex and less sing-songy boredom; then they traded in Satan for satin and denim. Did you fail to notice that several of the "fans" in that Ghost BC video were clearly bored hipsters having an "ironic" experience? As for Satanism, there's plenty of non-ironic black metal out there like Dimmu Borgir and Behemoth and dozens of others. Stateside, Deicide would love to take over GWAR's perennial Faux news late nite show guest slot and even Danzig will guest on an episode of "Portlandia" next season.

As for the motive of diabolis in humanis I think the question answers itself quite nicely.

Of course Ghost transcend classic "Satanic" heavy metal audiences with their music - that is their recipe, otherwise you won't be No 1 in the Swedish charts because last I heard they weren't all Satanists there;) "Ironic experience" is a good way of putting it. Ghost do it with a pinch of salt as an act. I find that relieving, not because I find true Satanism unsettling, but because I find it inane. Ghost are as "Satanic" as Screaming Jay Hawkins was.

Yeah, but I find joke satanism to be even stupider than actual satanism. The amount of effort they've put in to the costumes makes me skeptical of the joke though - like that thing shitty people did in high school where their tone sounded sarcastic but really they weren't; a ruse /cover/poorly concealed lie.

The "evil pope" thing was a good ruse to gain attention - sure worked with me, us Catholics like it when people dress up for the ceremonies - but its lifespan will be limited. Like Kiss, Crimson Glory or Slipknot they will one day be faced with making an image change. Even Alice Cooper had to for quite some years before reverting to type in the later 80ies.

This thread is almost as old as this forum. Let's no take it permanently off course.

My office is currently in an untidy state, I'll see what I can do.

As for the Gibson book: I'm letting Rob down and feel guilty about it, have to resume writing ...

He needs to break the mold and get a Psycho Cabbie for a change of pace.

Does Uwe collect for checkered sides?

I once played a Ric like that in a shop in Brooklyn, Kings Highway it must have been, close to where the shops of the Hasidic Community there were. Seriously tempted I was, yet take the Kubicki Factor (batteries included!!!) from Sam Ash in Manhattan I did. Guilty I am. As sin.  :-\

It was terribly set up, that might have played a role in my ultimate decision (the Kubicki had a very fast neck in comparison), but it sounded great. Back then I wasn't as confident in setting up basses and recognizing a bad set up for what it is. A bass collection approaching 200 does relax you and instill confidence in that respect.  But in 1988 I only owned two basses, a Hoyer Eagle and a Kramer XKB-10 Flying Broom (with EMGs, inserted at the bad advice of my then-guitarist  :-[ :-[ :-[ ).
