I'm with John though - it's still just plywood ![Tongue :P](https://bassoutpost.com/Smileys/default/tongue.gif)
As it happens, my dad was responsible for instroducing plywood to three midwestern states just after WWII - so I understand dave's comments about plywood as a protected product name. But let's set aside that nicety of nomenclature....
What's the problem with "plywood"?
"Plywood" works. So does Lucite. So do agathis, mahogany, ash, maple and various exotic woods. I see no reason that a highly attractive manufactured wood laminate should be an inferior wood.
Incidentally, when I saw Aerosmith Saturday night, Joe Perry played a custom guitar with lucite body and headstock on some numbers.
But then, I humbly admit that as a wood philistine, I don't consider the wood to be a critical factor in sound. I really like to see nice woods used in instruments, and I know there's a difference between solid-body, hollow and semi-hollow, but the type of wood doesn't concern me in terms of sound.
