It has a definite Todd Rundgren feel.  I just saw a seller on Ebay that is doing custom swirl finishes on Fender bass bodies.

Interesting:

The new Zoot Suit from Gibson USA features a brand new body built with multiple birch wood laminate pieces, each dyed with a different color then compressed and bonded together to form one solid block of wood. No paint is used. Two coats of satin lacquer are then applied at a 30 sheen to provide a smooth finish and also help protect the body from any damage.

I really like this one:

Yeah, it's FUN but it's FUNKY.
Definitely has a 60s vibe.  8)

I love it, very Peter Max, at first I thought it was made of candy.

Looks like The Fool!

Just laminates, no painting. Those things should be pricey considering the work that must go into that process. But I really, really dig it. Something different for once, like the ethno feel of it. Inca EB ...

The price seems really low considering what it took to make them.

A bass would be really cool as you pointed out.

What a smart way to market plywood instruments...

I like the swirl finishes. Steve Vai used to have them on his JEM series guitars.

The process is using a tub of oil or water (depending on paint used) then poor the paint in,  swirl the paint that floats on the top, then dip the item in . No two are alike, like swirl art.

A plywood construction doesn't make it necessarily a bad sounding guitar. Thinking of the mega-multi-plywood neck on my Kubicki, it probably sounds rather direct, a twangy SG then.
