I once played a Ric like that in a shop in Brooklyn, Kings Highway it must have been, close to where the shops of the Hasidic Community there were. Seriously tempted I was, yet take the Kubicki Factor (batteries included!!!) from Sam Ash in Manhattan I did. Guilty I am. As sin.
It was terribly set up, that might have played a role in my ultimate decision (the Kubicki had a very fast neck in comparison), but it sounded great. Back then I wasn't as confident in setting up basses and recognizing a bad set up for what it is. A bass collection approaching 200 does relax you and instill confidence in that respect.
But in 1988 I only owned two basses, a Hoyer Eagle and a Kramer XKB-10 Flying Broom (with EMGs, inserted at the bad advice of my then-guitarist
).
