You had to bring synths into it!  ;)

;D

Hey- it could be worse.  How about a "super-enlarged f-hole" theme?

OK.  Fast and dirty.  I'm still missing 3 from the shot.  The EB-1 is with my son in Iowa, and I didn't get the Bettie Page or the Savoy.

Here's a Gibson family shot without the NR added yet.  Sadly, the SG is gone to fund another vintage bass.

Is the Gretsch Thunderjet chambered? I thought it was a solidbody.

Chambered.  It has a nice hollow thump when you tap on it.  I can wear it for hours.  Nothing like the "chambered" 11.5 lbs. LP basses that were recently discontinued.

Honestly, I play it about half the time now along with my TBs at gigs.  It's just too easy to play.  It reminds me of an Allen Woody in size and weight, but the sound and build is incredible.

There's something about a compact short scale bass that sets it apart. And I've always loved the DuoJet shape.

Yep, once I got the TJ, the SG just sat in the case for months before I sold it.  This bass is a perfect mix of style and tone IMHO.

Gretsch Duo Jet guitars are chambered too. Since the first time they built 'm.

I realize that. But when the Thunder Jet came out, I thought the news releases called it a solid body. Looking at the Gretsch website now, I see it's categorized under the solid body section but the specs clearly say it's a semi-hollw mahogany body.

That's always an issue in Gretsch books. Gretsch always called it their first solidbody and it had to be a substitute for Fender basses and Gibson EB basses. But it really is 'semisolid.'

But:
There are a lot of Les Pauls with chambered bodies too. The girl-versions, some Epiphones and modern LPs, the Peter Frampton sig and I believe the new Slash sig has it too. Gibson state that they can't find wood as light as they had in the sixties. Making a guitar more hollow to the weight of a solid lightweight guitar, gives a same sound. Peter Frampton stated in an interview some years ago that his first prototype was heavier and different sounding than his own guitar. They made the chambers so it weighs exact the same as the real old Frampton guitar and the sound was spot on! of course this could be a nice selling story only.

But to come to the point: Chambered Les Pauls are never called semisolid either.

Just curious - is that Gretsch similar to the Guild M-85?
