That's a real Gibson Les Paul Bass / Triumph alright. But I'm pretty sure it was just for the video, because it doesn't sound like a Triumph at all. Sounds like an active Jazz Bass (or similar) was used for the recording.

Jeff Christie didn't play bass on the original, despite playing a P bass in the original (mimed) video. He wrote the song for the Tremeloes, who recorded it but decided not to release it. What you hear on the record is Jeff Christie's vocals and the Tremeloes' instrumental tracks.

In true fact, Noddy Holder invented steam punk fashion!  And - compared to his bandmates - his outfit was actually the best. Don Powell's Lamé dungareess - naw. Jim Lea's baby-blue knickerbockers? Give me a break. And the words "stylish fashion" and Dave Hill's name n'er shall meet in one sentence - unless it also contains the word NOT.  Jim Lea was sometimes so aghast he would say: "I'm not going on stage with you dressed like that!"
