Jumbodbassman has ordered a JAEbird with the front pup 1 inch closer to the  bridge.  I bandsawed the pup template so it can easily be realigned and screwed it to the neck pocket template.

Here is is with routing done, going to be black with a white guard.  I just got a pair of Barts from Jim, looking  forward to hearing how they sound.

Comparison to standard JAEbird pup location.  I'm using Allparts necks, they are more reliable to deal with than Mighty Mite and stock a lot of good stuff, ship quick and cheap.  The neck adjustment is at the heel.

Next is control cavity and gut cut.  Any color suggestions for the other 'bird?

Might be fun to play a Fender game with an Olympia white body and tort PG on a Gibby style body....?

How about a paisley bird, Fender Japan style?  They use wallpaper under a thick clearcoat.

Will do, paisan!

Control cavity tweaking...attached template to the body template with inset piece for actual cavity.  I drilled the control holes 1/2" deep from the front before routing the cavity, it eliminates any visible tear out in the finished cavity.  I also hogged out the cavity with a 1" forstner bit and the shopsmith to within 3/8" from the front.  With a more powerful pin router this wouldn't be necessary.

Control cavity, top thickness is now 1/4" in cavity area.

Removed the insert and made the cover route.  I have a lot of .01inch aluminum flashing so I'm going old school for shielding.  It also works great as a ground.  Cuts with scissors.  That shielding paint is expensive!

Cover template needs a little work

Off to find some paisley wallpaper.

This may sound daft but I used ally foil on the PC back in the 80's, glued in place - was a real pig to remove when I rebuilt...
