Anyone know the brand and approximate year of that copy 4005? Never saw one before.

chromium

I'm thinking it was a one-off?  The closest 4005 clones I've seen are those Shaftesbury 330-esque things...

ilan

Never seen anything like it before and from the pics it looks accurate and well built. But I'm not going to spend $1,500+ on a bass that I couldn't resell.

A new one-off from RIC outlet: 4004Cii TV Yellow/BT with 50 years old ebony fretboard. Starting at $3K.

Designated 4004cii but looks more like a 4004L to me as the body is maple and not a maple/walnut sandwich.

Now that actually does look a lot like Gibson's original TV Model finish.

MUCH better than those 5 C64S they just did. I was trying to see if it was a hippie sandwich or not. Hard to tell since the pics are dead-on front and rear.

ilan

Not a hippie sandwich. The listing states all-maple body. This is what John Hall posted at the RRF:

"Technically it's neither a Cii nor an L, since it has elements of both models, so it could have gone either way.

I might mention that this is one of two I had made as a Christmas gift for a well-known bassist friend; they each had different features but in the end I chose the other one for him. This one more pleased my ear's taste, while the one I gave him more pleased my eyes, though all of that is entirely subjective.

It also seems that this is my last bass-size piece of that wonderful ebony which we've had in our wood stock for more than 50 years. I have a few more guitar-sized sticks but then it's gone. This is Theodor Nagel sourced wood that Roger Rossmiesl ordered from Hamburg in the late 1950's."

The walnut wings on the headstock ruin it for me - they look out of place, they don't match any other parts of the guitar. A shame too - with the ebony fingerboard matching the black hardware and headstock matching the body it could have looked really nice...

4080 in solid non-burst WAL Burgundyglo:

I think it is just a poor picture of a Burgundy 4080. :)

It DOES look like solid walnut, but I agree it is likely BG.

Now who's going to lend me 6K?  ???
