I just don't like that bridge pickup placement, on this one or a 4005.

What Dave said. It's way too close to the bridge, and as you can expect, 4005 bridge pickups sound very thin and weak.

If you like that pickguard style, there is a 3000 (short scale) body on eBay, that could be transformed to a 3000/325 mashup. An easy job, and a 620 lower pickguard should fit:

Or a simpler single-pickup version, with a logical pickup position:

I agree.  It wasn't such a great idea.

Looks like it's a Krylon paint job on the body - it should clean up nicely.  I see that the bid is already at $500.00 - what would one of these in playable condition go for?  Regardless, I'm jealous as I've wanted one of these for years now - cash is just too tight right now to think about one.

Good luck and hope you get it for the current price.

That 3000 body looks to be in decent shape. Hope you can get it.

I hope it works out.  I could do something nice with it.

I remember a photo of that bass in the old Ric book from the late 80s. I love it!

JPJ played that bass at least once.

Cool looking bass. Too bad about the bridge pickup positioning. You could do a nice "tribute" with a 4004, a teardrop pickguard, and a Hipshot bridge.

After some research on the 3000, I decided not to go after it.  Got some other things I'd rather have.

That 3000 body went for $610. Definitely more than I would have paid.

What turned you off? The weight?
