son house is spinning in his grave. i have a 'proto type' wishbass made before he started using serial numbers. this according to mr. wish. impressive, i know. ;D  look, the wishbass is what it is. it has a comedic as well as folk art vibe. i love it when someone says 'what the f*** it that'?

oh, i got it for free. ;) that helps...

Whoa, the sound of his "new musical instrument" (probably a bass-tuned lap steel) is just as bad as his old bass video. I got through about 30 seconds of it.

I hope he copywrighted that tune  before one of us steals it...

Dave, if you had listened further, (especially after 2 min.)you would hear that there are higher more guitarish strings, maybe only one bass string, , In the video I posted above there are more instruments than pictured, and I'd bet Wish laid down the bass and guitar tracks previously. His style seems to favor sliding up the E string, unfortunately you'll have to suffer through a minute and a half of this to see it on what appears to be a Wish fretted guitar.

Completely different, you should be able to take more than 30 seconds of this:

And I apologize for the multiple off topic posts, but this thread should never been in the Rickenbacker forum.

just an unpretentious guy playing his music for the pure joy of it.

He can sing like an old black bluesman. That's something positive, I guess.

Yep, the second video is quite nice. I'm glad old Steve can play something... wasn't sure until now. He certainly can't play bass, or even understand what a bass does in a song.

Not a Ric topic, but I don't mind some traffic in this barren outskirt of the LBO...

Minimal luthier skills? A beaver could do a better job on that control cavity!

LMFAO! Dave.

I recall the comment on one of his YT vids........ "Wilfred Brimley got into acid and is playing the bass"

I remember that remark! That comment was from that awful video he took private.

He can't play bass, but that's not necessarily a handicap. Think Leo Fender, Jim Marshall, Ned Steinberger.

True, but they didn't make embarrassing promo videos. And they could put out quality products.

Jim Marshall was just the financeer. Ken Bran designed and built the amps.

A luthier friend who worked on my 64 TBird had a stripped Wishbass in his pile of spare parts.

He pulled it out to show it to me and said "I think it's called a "Wish Bass" because most everyone who owned one wished they never bought it."

godofthunder

Honestly if he put in truss rods and went to like 150 grit for final sanding he might have unique folksy fretless bass. As is? "Shudder".
