One Jazz Bass to forever pacify the Undecided ...

Are you fed up with not knowing whether your fancy-pants boutique Jazz needs an alder or ash or mahogany with bubinga top body? An aged Fender, an EBMM or a boutique look? Forever undecided whether you want a plain aged maple neck, one with block inlays, a rosewood one or a rosewood one with block inlays? Craving for that Jazz Bass single coil sound, but that Stingray growl is just too tempting too? Why compromise or call a dozen different J variations your own? Your quest is over ...

It's not photoshopped (although that is how it started out, but then someone wanted it for real and now the Sandberg Custom Shop builds it):











Probably you can even get a good sound on and play nice things with it, though Herr Duffy miraculously fails to do either for eleven minutes here , this with all due respect to his chops, well, I guess the Salsa two-hand-tapping he does around 3.50 is nice:

Who would actually buy this? It's a cute joke, but it's still a joke. Maybe it comes with a bag you can put over your head if you dare play it on stage.

Never heard of Uriah Duffy. He's technically proficient. Hopefully he also knows how to hold down the bottom end.

I'd sure play that on stage before I'd play a lot of metal and other basses.  Sure, it's a visual patchwork, but at least it's a creative one.

If it came with a suit to match you'd really have something going on .  In which case I would definatetly use the bag.

Herr Duffy is - would you believe - one of the many "come and go"-bassists of Herr Coverdale's backing band Whitesnake. He didn't last long. One album and one world tour. Before that he played with Sly Stone, hence the funk style. None of that was apparent with Whitesnake where he played meat and potatoes hard rock bass, but he was probably hired for his looks.



Supposedly a nice guy, my son got to meet him when he was shopping at a clothes boutique while Whitesnake were in Frankfurt.

His first name actually is Uriah. When Coverdale asked him whether his parents were Charles Dickens fans, he is supposed to have shrugged: "No, they came from the Philippines and have never heard of Charles Dickens, but they were fans of the band Uriah Heep!"

I guess it's better than being called "Led", "Deep", "Reo" or "Blue"!

PS: I respect the craftsmanship in that bass. It's supposed to feel absolutely seamless. And there is a 2.500 Euro surcharge for this version (bringing the bass above the 4.000 Euro region) due to the additional work. So you really have to want it.

What a riot!  A really ugly bass and torturous droning of bass playing that would fit into what music or song?  I tried listening to bass soloists like Stu Hamm and others and it's mind numbing (for me) to listen to solo bass playing after 10 minutes.  I just can't get into it and it bores me to tears.  I feel the same about drum solos that last for more than 90 seconds.  Give me a bass that is an integral part of a team of musicians any day!
