Sniper sighting
« on: February 16, 2012, 07:27:01 PM »
I was wondering where our buddy Sniper (aka CW) had gotten off to and he called me today.  Seems he took a tumble down a flight of stairs at the post office.  He had a concussion and injured his leg.  He ended up in the hospital and they have been treating him for an infection in his leg for over 2 weeks.  He reports it is finally getting better and he is on the mend.

He doesn't have access to the net in the hospital, so he has been out of touch.  Keep him in your thoughts and prayers guys!

He's got another week or two in the hospital before it's all settled.

Yep, it was a nasty fall.  The infection in his leg kept getting worse and that's what put him in the hospital on IV antibiotics.  It sounds like it is finally responding, but it was tough for the docs to get it under control for him.

Talked to Sniper today.  He continues to do better.  He's out in the middle of nowhere (Pecos, TX) in a small hospital.  The doc there said 2-4 weeks probably before he can get home and be healed sufficiently.  It's a pretty nasty wound and the healing is slow.  He sounds good and is walking around holding onto a wheelchair.  So at least he's getting out of bed once in awhile and the weather down there has been nice enough for him to step outside.  He said he does feel weak when he walks, so he's got to build his strength up as well.

That's it for now.  He still doesn't have internet access, so he'll be out of touch for some time to come.

I'm really glad he has access to a hospital out there.  West Texas is like few places in the US in terms of distances and sparse population and services.  I've been to Pecos and there's not a lot there.  Population is 7700 and it's the largest town in the county.

Here's where it is....

Thanks for posting that Al.  I was gonna Google Pecos tonight just to see for myself.  When I was a kid, I lived a couple hours northwest of him in Clovis, NM.  Another small town in East Jabip.  Had a great time there as a kid.  Lots of sun and playing outside.  Great memories.

Good to hear he's getting better, too bad it sounds like it will be a slow process.

Pecos actually does have decent facilities for a town its size, because it's the center for such a large rural area.
