Getting old

I just got divorced.  My aging process has halted temporarily.

OK, I'll play. 

I've been helping my mum sort through her recently departed husband's stuff (my stepfather) and one of the treasures is the first 3 editions of Australian Playboy magazine - which was first published in 1979.  Naturally (pun intended) I had a quick browse through the magazines, and am really tempted to show them to the 20-something guys in my band to freak them out - all the women in the Playboys have untended, wild gardens.  I bet that would scare the crap out of young guys today.

Not to mention (blasphemy of blasphemies) Round hips!!  (Sorry Mark H .....just sayin... )

I remember that era. Made me wonder where they kept their hedge trimmers. It was still much more than Playboy showed when I was a lad.

I used to be fascinated with technology. Our space program was awesome. I have stopped my telephonic technological advance though. I have a landline with a wireless handset. Robocalls suck. The person who invented them should roast eternally. I refuse to give up more privacy and uninterrupted reflection time to a cell phone. Selective luddite rant over for now...

I love having my cell phone but I don't use it any more than a land line. And that's not very much at all. No need to let it rule you.

I remember an exchange on one of my favorite TV shows of some years ago, "Night Court".

Harry was complaining about turning 40, and Dan, doing his normal suck-up, argued that he looked great.

At which time Harry pointed to his ear and said "Oh, really?? Look!  EAR HAIR!"

And Dan screamed and yelled  '"Oh my God, are you sure you're ONLY 40??"

At work, one of the 20-somethings asked me "so what's slap bass?" And ths first thing I thought to say was "it's like... you know theme to Night Court?"

Blank stare...
I couldn't think of anything recent enough.

I felt old.

I would have answered, "Slap bass is what people do when they want to show how bad ass they are in their own mind."

Speaking of Henson (and speaking of getting old), I watched Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas on Netflix with my boys last month.  Some good tunes in there too...

One odd side effect for a lot of people who were kids in the 70s, is that between Happy Days and Sha Na Na, you have as much familiarity with 50s tunes as the stuff that was new then.  Granted, if you had to choose between Anson Williams crucifying a Doo Wop classic or Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush, nobody wins.  But I still dig Bowser, Jocko, Lenny, etc.
