The one in my old 77 Tele Bass read about 31.2k, which I think is typical. That and the look are the only things it has in common with the Gibson. The construction is different. Both pickups are muddy but it's not the same kind of mud. The Tele has very strong overdriven mids. Plenty of lows and some highs but the mids overshadow them. OTOH the Gibson doesn't have much going on above 1khz.
First time I ever heard the term "mudbucker" years ago was when Steve Barr used it. He was describing the Tele Bass pickup, not the Gibson.
Fatdawg of Subway Guitars described the Tele Bass as having "fart-in-the-bathtub tone."
