It's 25 years ago today.

I remember arriving at the rehearsal room of my first band. Our lead singer had just heard on the radio that Phil Lynott had died.
We were quite devastated.

And after 25 years, I'm still a huge fan.

RIP Philip

So long ago.  Still remember the first time I heard Jailbreak on the radio.  San Antonio, 1976.  Made me want to go out and buy a black Precision bass. (which I did in '79!)

I recommend reading the book Philip Lynott The Rocker by Mark Putterford.

Highlander

He was not what I would call a great player, nor a great singer, but what he did he did with style and he produced some classic material in his short life...

If research was easy, it wouldn't need doing...
Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

Maybe Kenny.
But there's not many singers that still give me goosebumps. Even after 25 years...

And man, they were funky when he first got the classic Gorham/Robertson line up together:

I had a tough time learning this one way back when.

It's PHILIP Lynott.  Check his website.  Apparently, he insisted on his full name.

Strange.  All of my vinyl records are credited to Phil.

Hats off to Phil!  8)

He'd be pleased to know that Scott Gorham is keepin' Thin Lizzy going.
Scott's from my high school - Hoover High in Glendale, Calif.!
Marco Mendoza is ROCKIN' the bass these days! He's fantastic!

I'm not doubting you.  I'm just going on what I've since heard.

And here's a rare bit of him going solo, and without the famous Precision.

I read this book by his mother a few years ago:

It was a good read.

I think it was an interview with his mom where I heard that he preferred to be called by his full name.  I know his mother did.

I tend to agree with you, unpopular as it may be.

Love Lizzy and Philip. The first three albums with Eric Bell are very charmy and have some great funky tracks as well and the latest remasters have plenty of great bonus tracks from BBC sessions plus the obligatory single A's and B's like the Kevin Ayers -style calypso "Randolph's Tango" and "Whiskey" flip "Black Boys On The Corner".
"Vagabonds Of The Western World" is expanded to a double and has a great session with Moore on guitar and featuring an early version of "Showdown" plus a fantastic "Sitamoia" amongs others. Very recommended.

I saw the new Lizzy back in 1998 with Sykes, Gorham, Mendoza, Wharton and Aldridge and it was pretty awful. Very heavy metal with that high gain guitar sound, Mendoza taking the macho posturing of Lynott a way too far and Aldridge playing like he always does and without the swing and lightness Downey had.

Although I was never really much of a Lizzy fan, I certainly do appreciate the contribution that was made to music especially on those first three albums with Eric Bell.
