let's keep our fingers crossed that the big 3 make a real go at it.  So much of the us economy is driven by the auto  business but nobody realizes it until the the sh@t hit the fan.....

congrats on getting back to work.

Fix the hole, and then give it the early 70's Entwistle red paint treatment!

I'll second that...

And Curt... welcome back to the land of employment...!

Ha... Nice one...  ;D

...for sure, the new job has allowed me to hold onto my newly repaired 1962 Gibson EB-3!!!
It flew just under the "have to sell" radar!!!

I'll post some pics and a clip of me playing it soon.

Congrats, Curt. I just got canned 2 weeks ago. Said they were "slow and losing money" but finding a gig as a model maker is impossible in Chicago...unless I lived in California. It's okay. I'm selling my 1966 Jetstar and 1992 12 string Ricky along with some toys. Hope to figure out a new career.

You're a model maker for architects?  What about setting up a busines that contracts to architects?  They all may be slow but if they only paid for a model when the needed it instead of keeping someone on staff?  Just thinking.....

Regardless, good luck on your search.

When I read what some of you guys got to go through, concerning work, it makes me feel good I'm retired, and can spend quality time with my wife, my bands, and my basses. Plus I can give Karen Elsons cd an extra spin, without being concerned about have to split for work. Life is great!

I'll second Buzz's comments there, Joe, and wish you the best for a quick turnaround...

Thanks guys and God Bless. I'm a model maker/finisher for Industrial Design and engineering models. I'm the monkey in the shop who get the parts that were made on a CNC or Poly-jet or SLA (3d parts built from resin cured with UV light), sands, prime, paint, custom mix color, clearcoat, apply rubdowns or graphics, polish Aluminum, Polish acrylic, light milling on the milling machine, small tunings on the lathe, Molding, casting, and painting action figures and Thunderbirds in my spare time!!!! Hey...doesn't Barkless Dog work ion a toy shop???

Curt congrats on the new gig ! Joe laid off again ? Man that sucks. The past three or four years were pretty dicey for as far as employment so I know what it is like. I finally got tired of it and just work for myself now. There are 4 areas I concentrate on but I am not limited to. Antique restoration, ebay sales, buying and selling basses (also repair and restoration of basses), and of course my old stand by painting. Even some estate sale appraising. Oh yeah I am also giving bass lessons. Since I made the shift in November things have really taken off and I am happier in my work life than I have ever been. What else have I done for money?.......................no not that can't get the missus to go along. But I did build a  control console for a Boston Whaler...........................nothing is off the table, everything is a opportunity.

Gotcha, I was thinking architectural models - you need much less in the way of tools to do that as opposed to what it sounds like you've been doing.  Still, it sounds like you have a very broad, and deep, skill set so there has to be opportunity out there for you.  Hanging out your own shingle doing something for yourself has become a the growth industry in this economy.

Hang in there - we're all pulling for you.

Thanks Guys! I tried to apply as a painter at Third Coast guitar service here in Chicago but Chris the owner said that he had no openings. Wish I knew just a little bit more about guitar set up, intonation, fretjobs...then I'd be there. I can design, cut wood, build, sand, and paint, need practice with the polishing but stuck in the other areas. Seems that guitar repair is a lucrative business!!!

Could be a good time to try enhance those skill... ;)

Thought I had a deal with the seller for $1250 if it didn't sell on the bay, sent 2 emails not a peep out of him.
