Could be he made a deal with one of his eBay lurkers, but either way it would be rude of him not to let you know what the current situation is, especially as you've asked. Here's hoping he gets back to you...

Yeah, I don't know about that guy. I'm the one that started this thread and posted the link to this auction and I emailed him a question on Ebay before I started this thread and I didn't hear back from him and then after I posted it on here someone else on here pointed out that he also had it on Craigslist so I sent him a message through that and still heard nothing back but a few of you guys did hear back so I don't know. I sent him another message on Ebay a few days ago asking if the headstock was indeed the original headstock or if it had been replaced and he finally responded saying that it was real. The wood from the neck and headstock look different though so not sure what to believe. He does have a perfect feedback rating on Ebay though so who knows. I'm actually surprised that it didn't sell for $1500 to be honest. Granted it has some issues but I don't think it would take that much to fully restore it. Just needed a refin, new pickguard, fix the pick up and the input jack wood. Well, I hope you do end up getting it, I would love to see that thing brought back to life. Especially if you could get it for $1250.

Yeah, so I had emailed him a few days back after I saw the bass on craigslist and then on Ebay that if it doesn't sell, I'll offer him $1350.00 plus shipping. NO word back. Days later, However, he emails today and says he is going over to the owner of the T bird's  house and will run my offer by him. Being out of work...this still has me hesitating...but y'know...I could keep on honeing my luthier skills...... Hmmmm.....

godofthunder

Huh! At this point I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. Before the auction ended he said we had a deal. I hope he winds up with a big wad of nothing. Joe I really mean this, if you get the bass I am happy for you no hard feelings.  :toast:

He agreed to a price with you and another price with Scott, as if he were the owner of the bass. Now he claims he's not the owner? That would make me want to run away. Something's not right here.

AGREED. I spoke with my buddy Tony Carl and we both agreed it's not worth it. If the repair had been made with the original headstock or at least Mahogany, that would be one thing. The graft is done all wrong. It should be sandwiched between the neck and fingerboard like a real spanish graft. It's glued to the back of the neck!!! Gee...I am learning something about luthierie. Just need to know how to do a set up the real way and intonate along with fret jobs and I could be in business!!! Some knowledge of wiring would help. Any lutherie schools in Chicago??? Besides...I just checked my cell phone. No word from the guy. I'm out of it. Seems like the bass would need a new neck from Dolan and then if you're going that route, a hunk of mahogany is about $100.00 bucks....It would be cheaper to make a body , Have Dolan build a neck and get parts from Mike Lull and Ebay. Much more of a better deal than buying this abortion.

I am wondering if the existance of the Bachbirds is affecting the demand for projects like this. I know I would have been interested in it if I didn't have the Bach.

And I'm thinking if he ran it as a real auction, starting at $1 with no reserve, he would have netted more than he will end up selling it for if Scott or Joe can't resist.

godofthunder

It is difficult to resist but I think I am going to pass, something is fishy. If I paypal him the $ I don't know that he can really deliver the bass.

Sending him money for a bass he now claims is owned by someone else = very high risk. And outside of eBay, you would be unprotected.
