I have a rewinder working on trying to replicate the 70-442 chokes used on the early Rippers and later model EB3's. I'll keep you posted on how it goes.  8) 8)

Will it work for a '67?  I have a project EBO, just scored a correct bridge PUP and will be upgrading it to EB3 spec.  Will also need varitone pot and plate.  Thanks

dunno dadagoboi, i will let you know. i was supposed to get it out to my pup winder this last week and instead i was bed ridden and ended up going to the hosp instead of being able to do my Gibby screwing around i love so much. as soon as i hear from him on this subject, i will update this thread.  his response will determine if i can offer a choke or not. if i can, it will be a late model eb3/early ripper type of approx 1.2 to 1.5 Henries (basically a notch filter) and about 2.65 kohm dcr.

right now i am planning on going on another trip soon to meet my new grandson. i'll call it my 2010 daughter/grandchild tour. 8)

my plates are not original but very close. i wholesale the plate to outpost members so don't buy one on ebay.

peace

Take care of yourself, we ain't getting any younger!  Thanks for all the info, I'll be ordering a plate soon and a choke whenever/if you get them into production.  if it's OK with you I will pass on the specs to a friend of mine, he's a guitar player/EE/ amp builder who might have some ideas as to what might work.

Much success on the tour, I'm planning the same.  My daughter's moving from L.A. to New Orleans today and it's been a while since I've seen her.  Good excuse to hit the road.

nice bass!

i have been working on a few projects but seem to have hit a financial impasse. (moving thrice prolly has not helped much)
one of the projects is a dual cut LP bass that is in storage right now:

it is getting a 70's bucker with trim ring, a NOS model g for a bridge pup and a circuit out of an eb3. the DS2 shown is back in the parts bin for now, also one of my plates and the neck is going to set in but will extend to the bridge like a Curlee.

oh, and a polished stainless cover and not the brass one shown. the rest of the trim will be in black except for the pups which are original gibby chrome and yellowed DiMarzio plastic.

That's going to be one sweet bass!  Mine's a '60 I bought in '65 for $40 and modded and refinned around '72. '68 tele bass bridge pup was a freebie from a bud. The combo of it, the mudbucker and longscale rotosounds still sounds good to me.  I guess I could stack pot it to get more control over the blend.  Little did I know then what I was doing to the "resale value".  Probably would have dropped a split P pup in it if someone gave me one.

Ooh, nice EB-0. The single coil tele pup almost looks like it belongs there. Anyway no use regretting mods done 30-40 years ago.

I'll second, third and fourth all of Dave's points and welcome...

i have two daughters in Texas @ Tyler, one with my new grandson, one with three grandkids in S.E. Kansas at Baxter Springs, the city limit sign, county sign and state sign marking Oklahoma are all on the same post on old route 66,  one in Joplin Missouri from my first marriage and one with a grandson in Marshfield Missouri, preggers again.

the males in the house were the dog and me. Butkus (we called him Bucky and he was a small weiner dog) and me against all the women. i never got into the bathroom = i just peed out the window.

Baxter Springs is about 753 miles from Pecos on the short route through Abilene and up through Wichita Falls to I-44.

i didn't think that bass was a new build when i seen that black bucker hanging there. the looks of it all just blew me away...really righteous!

Thanks, the angle of the pup to fit the string spacing was just right to match the bridge angle.  Hard to screw that one up.  Definitely no regrets!

Man, I saw 70-442 and immediately thought of automobiles!

What and where is the choke on a Ripper and what do they do?
Why did Salvador Dali cross the road?

It's mounted under the scratchplate - the black cylindrical thing in the middle of the pots is the choke
I've got picks here

I think (although I may be wrong - i'm terrible at schematics) that the midrange pot is what activates this choke...

Ah, I know what you are talking about. They DO something?  ;D

They do what they did for Jack Bruce and Andy Fraser...mostly make you short.

according to PBG, Bruce had a cap or resistor that was burnt out but still worked by letting a considerably smaller amount of current through.

just exactly what cap, resistor or where is it was is in the circuit is unknown to me.
