That's more like it, but now I'm suspicious of the seller.

Is that the same bass? From their description they fitted a bezel (but kept the cover on for the photos), bought some Rick-approved polish and a torque wrench, then decided to sell up.

One of their other items for sale is a Vauxhall.  :o

It is a great color, IMHO a nicer blue than Midnight Blue.

Azureglo started as a VW color, there's the story of a VW Microbus that was parked across the street in Santa Ana and someone at the factory liked the color. Midnight Blue started just as a metallic version of AZG, same hue. But then it changed a lot over the years.

Dave W

It sure has. The older Midnight Blue was great, I don't like the version they've used in recent years as much.

Mid Blue has evolved into a purple-ish blue, then in 2004-5 there was the whole color bleed into the binding saga (and guitars still covered by the one-year warranty were refinished by the factory), after which RIC went back to the original formula - metallic version of the old VW blue. The metallic particles also got smaller IIRC and the effect was less pronounced. But not long after that, Mid Blue started to shift again slowly towards purple.

AzureGlo makes me drool. Great color. I don't mind the more purple midnight blue, but Azure is awesome. I know it's VW-based, but I like to think of it as Ford corporate blue.

I saw a VW Polo today that looked to be the same shade of blue as the Azureglo 4001 pictured in the back of Paul's book, with the toaster pickup. I think the colour is VW's 'Mayan blue', and all the images online look a bit too bright.

This is how I remember old VW blue.

EDIT: this is probably VW's L390 Gulf Blue.

Paul Boyer

Hmm. No Azureglo on the back of my book - that's Russ Tubman's custom painted "Aquabass" and not a stock color.

I believe the original Azureglo was based on either Volkswagen's Sea Blue (L360) or Gulf Blue (L390). At least that's what I've been able to figure. Might not be right.
