Blackstar! It's been a while since I've seen one on eBay.

Starting at $2K.

Hard to photograph black well unless you really know what you're doing. This one seems to be in nicer than average shape.

Ohh... now that is beautiful...
The random mind of a Silver Surfer...
If research was easy, it wouldn't need doing...
Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

I looked at a couple past pages and didn't see this one listed. Apologies if it was, but being so rare I thought you guys might like it.

If only I'd kept scrolling back! I should have figured it had been up a while at that price.  :o

Love that dark, smooth burst typical of '68 FG's.

Much better than today's FG.

Saw this one in person at one of my local GCs (Concord CA) - pretty nice Burgundyglo (I think?) 4001:

Plugged it in - definitely needs new strings but the neck seemed fairly well-adjusted. Strange thing was, the body where the controls are seemed to be warping up! Sorry I didn't get a picture of that. In hindsight, I did a terrible job - didn't even get a shot of the serial - for some reason I thought the tag read 1974 but now I see it doesn't - I think all the 4's got me confused. Can't find it online yet - maybe too new? I can go check it out if anyone's interested but I think it's overpriced, and the bent body is weird.

Okay, this one is freakin' AWESOME. 4001v63 in BlueBoy with gold pickguard and Plexi TRC. Not on eBay but on GBase.

This was at one time my dream bass. When RIC had BlueBoy as Color of the Year, I wanted to order a C64 in that finish. Of course I wanted a non-flipped headstock, but the v63 was discontinued by that time so I was ready to order a C64 as long as it was in BlueBoy. But Chris Clayton told me it was impossible, they do C64's only in MG, FG, and the occasional JG.

And now this... How freakin' cool is that?

That's pretty darn nifty!

Dave W

It's nifty, all right, but are you sure that's a Blue Boy?

ilan

On my monitor it's too mint-greenish to be aged white. And I have seen pics of BlueBoys that look white on camera. Especially when they don't have the white pickguard for contrast.

Paul Boyer

I'm pretty sure that it is a refinish job in the same color as Blueboy and the addition of the gold back-painted pick guard and TRC. Blueboy does look a little greenish if it is faded or photographed in certain light conditions. It could also have been a special order for a special customer and made in the factory, but my money is on a refin.
