Gorgeous Walnut (glossy Autumnglo) 4001 - almost Black Trim but the fretboard binding is white, and the body binding is pinstripe.

It's a mess alright. Could be a great project. I posted your link in the Projects, Mods & Repairs section, in Dale Fortune's thread, to get his opinion as the resident Ric restoration specialist.

How many 63's with Deluxe features have we seen for sale?

As long as the carcass is there, the neck is functional and the numbered jack plate is there, this bass can come back to life as a restored real '63. And sell for a lot of money. As long as the restoration is done properly.

The real shame is the missing part of the binding on top. I'm sure this can be taken care of by a skilled luthier. Then a refin in an opaque CV color can hide the abuse. I'd go with Jetglo as this has been RIC's traditional choice for less attractive bodies.

It's an expensive restoration but think of the end result.

That IS tragic. Might as well remove the whole wing and put a new one on there.

I spotted that (binding) on the other thread, Ilan, but the pic looks like it's significantly rounded off, and then re-finned... I'd think that would be a real Tivall Frankie to put right... ;)

I talked to Dale yesterday and asked him his opinion on this bass.He said he could fix that massaged upper wing without replacing it!Rebind that small section as well. With a new finish on it you would never be able to tell it was repaired.I questioned him about the pickup routes too and he told me they were all original except for the obvious p route and a few extra screw holes. This would be a great player. As far as anything else goes,If you could find the original correct parts(wich would take you years if at all)it would be way to expensive to restore compared to its worth as a refurbed bass.even with reissue parts its a pretty big undertaking on a bass that is only going to fetch between2,500.00 to 3K when completed.I wouldnt kick out of my guitar rack though

A freind of mine is thinking about bidding and just putting the bare minimum on it to make it playable. He likes "Mojo".
