Well I guess it was only a matter of time...

With Eric Clapton being one of the first to have a fender signature model and him having a rehab center going on the island of Antigua, it was bound to happen that these would be combined...

at only 5,000 bucks. whadda' deal. i have an 83' squire bought new that is a great guitar in every way. even 25 years later at today's prices it's still  waaaaay more twang for the buck. ;)

plus the original white finish has yellowed nicely as has the misfits sticker near the bridge. :)

If you buy one, does that entitle you to coast on your reputation for 30 years?  :P

eb2

Thirty years?  I would say EC jumped the shark long before that.  Cream's Goodbye lp didn't have that title for nothing.

But I love Antigua finishes.

It is kind of sad that someone who once sounded so good in Cream would come out with "I Shot the Sheriff" and other crap.

nofi

clapton did not write many of his post cream solo hits. i shot the sheriff is a good example.

Dave W

He didn't write a lot of Cream and pre-Cream stuff either. Jack Bruce and Pete Brown wrote a lot of Cream's songs.

I always chalked the Delaney and Bonnie crap and Derek and The Dominoes period to an artistic meandering.  After that period his tone gets ball-less and genrerally soul-less.  By the time he is recording Wonderful Tonight and Rock N Roll Heart, his music is numbingly horrid.  That doesn't mean he can't play still, but the Strat-era Clapton with rare exception is musical excrement.

I had assumed he wrote most of his solo stuff.  I hardly like any of it.  Also, his guitar sounds the best on "Disraeli Gears," in my opinion.  As far as songs that I know of that he has written, I really do think "Badge" is a great song, although I'm not sure how much of that he wrote and how much George Harrison wrote.

eb2

George Harrison wrote a lot of it.  The name comes from Clapton reading the lead sheet Harrison was writing out for them, where he saw it upside down.  He thought the word "bridge" was "badge."

And the Antigua finish looks like excrement. A perfect match.

Not much love for E. Clapton hereabouts........... :-\

Outrageous love here for Clapton from Yardbirds, Bluesbreakers, Cream, and maybe even through Derek and The Dominoes.  After that, the drop in gears is severe.
