Adolph Rickenbacker actually spelled his name initially in its Swiss original "Rickenba
cher". That throaty "ch" (even more throaty in Swiss than it would be in German) is not something you have in English, it's a bit like the Vietnamese "kh",
so poor Adolph's last name was probably so long mispronounced as either Ricken-bucker or Ricken-baker, he finally gave up and aligned the writing of his name with one of the mispronunciations.
In Germany today, we don't use the original "ch" tone anymore when pronouncing Rickenbacker - we pronounce it as Ricken-bucker. Ricken-baker is seldom, but not unknown.
