Here's a first look at my latest acquisition. She plays great and sounds massive. I'll do it in a custom color at some point but a few things need to be addressed furst.

Great find Scott!
It obviously needs some TLC.
But I'm quite sure she'll turn out beautiful!

I vote for Heather Poly  ;)

Sigh, learning Tshörmenn lesson 1, lieber Scott:

'Schaller' is not ponounced "shay-ler" like in oil shale, but "shuller" like a lull in work.

Now repeat after me!

Have fun with the bass. Substance looks good, anything else can be done in the aftermath.

PS: No saws!!!  8)

True, but you'll still hear shay-ler quite often here.

You'll also often hear Dee-a-dario instead of Duh-dario.

Or Messer schmitt!

Edit: poor quality German-baiting aside...

I can't watch embedded YouTube videos on this forum on my phone.

I found your channel, Scott, through judicious searching!

A nice bass! All the right bits are there! No ugly over sanding on the body or regrettable routing.

For the headstock I would route and install splines from the rear then add a long back strap of mahogany. Not something I've ever done, but it seems like a good way of toughening up that area while still maintaining the appearance of an un-modified neck.

I would do splines normally but there is so little original material left I am hesitant to remove any original material for splines.

and Ricken backer

That's the way Adolph Rickenbacker pronounced his own name. Cousin Eddie, too.

I'm aware of the problem. Just downloaded a new update to the embedding software and I'll install it in a bit. I hope that will solve the issue.

That makes a lot of sense. I quite like the rat rod look with the satin natural finish and '60s guard with the Dimarzio cutout.

I'm intrigued to see where you are taking this one.

That's ok, a lot of people say "Jipson" for Gibson in Germany too. And I-an Jillan for Ian Gillan. It also took a while before Judas Priced became Judas Priest.

You guys pronounce it Ricken Baker?

Adolph Rickenbacker actually spelled his name initially in its Swiss original "Rickenbacher". That throaty "ch" (even more throaty in Swiss than it would be in German) is not something you have in English, it's a bit like the Vietnamese "kh",

so poor Adolph's last name was probably so long mispronounced as either Ricken-bucker or Ricken-baker, he finally gave up and aligned the writing of his name with one of the mispronunciations.

In Germany today, we don't use the  original "ch" tone anymore when pronouncing Rickenbacker - we pronounce it as Ricken-bucker. Ricken-baker is seldom, but not unknown.
