In this case I think this might be The Last Bass Post and we all just go home and ponder what has just happened and have a gentle aperitif.

the mojo hobo

If it was fretted I would have bought it weeks ago.

Fear of unfretted basses is unfounded - seriously. I was always hesitant, but when I finally made the jump I took to it like a duck takes to water (and surprised myself, I'm generally not talented learning new things, it's all hard work and patience with me, as my son once put it so disrespectfully, yet aptly: "For your limited talent, you've turned into quite some bass player, dad.8) ). The secret is just doing it and not thinking too much about it. You'll be surprised how good your muscle memory will be.

That is not to say that fretted basses don't have their place. I alternate as whim strikes me. The band guys by now don't even notice anymore what I'm playing unless I do blatant "yeoooow" fretless slides.

In my experience (massive fretless use since 1986, including two years of not owning a fretted bass at all), the secret is (1) learning classical upright with a teacher, (2) fret lines.

Basvarken

Well this bass almost ticks both boxes. With that extra strap button on the topside of the body the bass will hang almost vertically. Plus it has fret lines.

But fret lines are for sissies, Ilan!  :gay:  Be a man and re-intonate while playing if you haven't hit it right the first time. Alternatively, just say the guitars are off-key, they usually are.  ;)

And they look crap. Like support wheels.  8)

Blah blah blah.
Now buy the bloody bass Uwe. You're driving us nuts.

You knew this was coming -

Check mate!  ;D I'm happy to have lines since I play fretless so infrequently.

IMO training wheels are better than face plants. I seldom play my fretless, but I'm grateful for the lines when I do.

How I hate your unprovoked retaliations, Ilan!  ;D
