Guild 302

I was goofing around the other day and looking at the marked finish on this  gutless bass.I decided to spot strip some chips ( which were strangely round) and steam some dents. The finish is a dark burst and there is some sexy checking in the finish. I was  trying to remove some buckle rash and realized the body was 1 piece of mahog! very nice swirl and deep color. so I stripped the  whole body.It really is a beautiful piece of wood. Im going to try to leave the black fade on the back of neck heal and head stock from the orig  burst finish. I may end up  doing a burst on it in the long run, but I love the natural  look at this point.
There was only checking on the top around the PG,not under, which I had not seen before.
 I think I have a plan for the single  coil pups too. If i only had some posts for the bridge........

I just got a 301 bridge and post but no inserts!  I don't know where you'd find these posts (unless you come across them on eBay as I did) , they are a bit larger than Gibson posts.  A good machinist could probably copy the ones I have.

I was bein a bit sarcastic. I was going to bid on that thinking no one would want it ....and forgot!I have the bridge and gutless body. I bet the  inserts are metric because a 3/8"  thread wont go in . (unless it is fine thread) so off to the machinist buddy, 12 pak in hand and bridge(and bass) in the other. im hopein' to save some of the krackle mojo on this. nitro is such a funny kritter,but it has been dry lately....

That would be awesome. Ill check with the machinist. He may have an easy fix. I really felt guilty stripping the 302 but it is beautiful. Now I have a shop full o projects. sounds familiar except my wife works and Im unemployed, still! Dartmouth college really sucks. 'nuff said.M

I did find out the threads are  #10 metric coarse for the posts.FYI

I saw some rugged  brass inserts (oversize) 1/2"+ for  gibby on evilbay. Any thoughts? I got some isuzu mica blue(pelham blue) and Inverness green(sherwood) Now If I only had a project............

Is course 1 or 1.5 mm thread?  I would think 1.5, right?

no idea,Ill find out though.I could tell you how to cook it, catch a salmon with it and maybe build a frame for it.

I left it dry because I dont like to wet the wood(sort of speak) too often unless I have to.

Nice looking grain.  My 60s TB had nice grain, but the neck repair precluded a transparent finish unfortunately.  This bass has potential!

Good luck, and give it your all.  These things - both the 301 and 302 - are some of the finest and certainly most under-appreciated basses ever made.  I can honestly say I have enjoyed every one I have ever picked up.
