I tried to order this afternoon but the page stalled when I was ready to check out :(

Hmm that sucks. The WooCommerce plugin has been a pain in the butt since I started the site...
The shopping cart remembers who you are. And when the order has not been completed the initial order remians.
You could try to delete the extra books that you added unintentionally. And then try to complete payment again.
Are you using Paypal?
