Here's some pics of the ASAT:

.... and a pic of my Jazz's - the black one on the left would be traded, the white one I'd keep:

The Bass Zone / trade question
« on: October 02, 2014, 04:29:42 AM »
I'm thinking of trading my '08 Fender American Standard Jazz for an MIA '13 G&L ASAT Bass that's practically new - even up... The current owner of the ASAT states that it's uncomfortable to play standing up, and that he wants an MIA Fender Jazz...

I'm not very sensitive to neck dive or body position, since I can comfortably switch back and forth between P Basses, Jazzes, T-Birds, EBMMs, etc... - so, the ASAT will probably not be a problem for me - BUT, I did tell him that I'd have to play it standing up before making a deal...

Now, another aspect of this: the Jazz I'd be trading is an outstanding bass, just a flat out perfect Jazz in every way(playability, tone, extremely stable neck, etc...) - however, I also have another Jazz that's killer as well... So, I'd still have a great Jazz bass left, but the ASAT would give me something different in my modest collection...

I'm thinking that as long as the ASAT doesn't neck dive any worse than my T-Bird, doesn't have any issues, and plays as well as the Jazz I'd be trading, I'm gonna go for it - any thoughts/opinions on this potential trade???

Thanks George,

Carlo and Scott are the guys with the T Bird smarts, your bass is totally cool  8)

No doubt those guys are experts on the subject - LOVE the work both have done!!!

George,

It came out fantastic! Rock that bass!

The color shift is from different bulb types - they'll render the visible color spectrum differently.

Great pic Tom!

Thanks, Mark - your opinion on all things Bird carries considerable weight with me...

Looks great! Reminds me of my sonic blue a little bit. Stage lights make it look anywhere from white to lavender in pics.

Thanks - yours looks fantastic!!!

Looks fine from here, but my monitor shows two different colors. Is this sonic blue?

It's actually seafoam green, but in some light it appears to be blue - besides my crappy camera, lack of photography skills and poor lighting contributing to the "effect"...

What in particular do you find difficult about finishing a Thunderbird body compared to others?

My biggest challenge seems to be getting adequate coverage around the contours of the neck cutouts, without getting runs in the neighboring areas... Also, the "ridges" are giving me a bit of difficulty as well - I'm pretty tenacious as a rule, though - I'll get it done to my satisfaction one way or another...

Looking forward to some pics George!

Probably in about 2 weeks, Mark - I've been working on it in between a fairly busy gigging schedule...

I'm finding out just how difficult it is to law down a quality finish on a Thunderbird body - all those lines and contours are no cakewalk... I've been working on a seafoam green paintjob on my Fenderbird built, and after spending more than a week on the basecoat, I've finally moved on to the clearcoat - unfortunately, I'll be wetsanding out a couple of runs before laying down the next coat - oh well...

I just don't much like Sting regardless of what he does.  He comes across as an arrogant prick just to be perfectly honest.  It's possible that time has mellowed him, but I really don't know.

Agreed - same thing with the douche from U2...
