Michael Anthony was never my cup of tea but to slag him off as not being a good bassist ? Naw that's silly.

Where did she do that? She just posed some things to think about.

I see a lot of reading things into her (brief) comments that just aren't there.

She doesn't like bass solos. I expect the vast majority of listeners would agree with her.

I have been thinking the same thing in my quest for finding a decent standard humbucker sized replacement for my epi lp std bass,  just finding somthing that is wound for alot of bass and low mids i thik would probably work out great under as smooth chrome cover.

I don't know that there's any special formula to wind for a lot of bass or low mids.

There are so many variables. Shape of the coil, size of magnets, polepiece or magnet configuration, etc. The amount of wire on the coil is only one factor.

It's going to be hard to find an EB-2D in anyone's store stock anywhere, only four of them listed on gbase.

I hadn't read this until now, but my thought was, it's just someone's opinion, and whether a site is publicly funded or not, a blogger is entitled to personal opinion. NPR has never claimed to be devoid of personal preferences.

Then I looked. It's Carrie Brownstein. More than 10 posts in this thread and nobody mentioned it was Carrie's blog? Nobody else here knows her? IMO she's a great guitarist, and a much better guitarist than Michael Anthony is a bassist. YMMV, of course.

I don't think she was trying to be amusing. Whatever.

An early 70's or mid 60's means it probably has the 6 pole Strat pickup under the rubber cover. ;D ;D

I think it's a Musicmaster guitar pickup, not a Strat. Flush polepeices, IIRC. Whatever, it sounds better to me than any replacement.

6 poles seem to work fine (another example: Rick toaster) if the polepieces are magnets, but not as well when the polepieces are steel with the magnet underneath the coils.

It probably is earlier, but don't tell the seller.  :-X

IMO it's both pickups and scale. The wide spread of the neck pickup coils, the location of the bridge pickup and the rounder, less aggressive attack of the short scale.

Note to Al: The Epi EB-0 doesn't sound anything like this to me.

Look here and scroll down close to the bottom to Jerry Ward's Bass & Amp (note that the page copyright is 2002-2004).

He was the original bassist for Merle's Strangers and played on most or all of Merle's big hits of the mid and late 60s. Also wrote some for Bonnie Owens, IIRC a couple of songs for Merle too.

If I were interested I'd certainly want more photos, but my gut feeling is that it's real, although the finish looks either stripped or worn off. Price does seem high to me but I haven't checked 64 P prices lately.

Are you sure Dave? they are still listed in their current catalog and i see them listed on a very few online stores in germany..

I'm not sure but you could check with Allparts since they're official importer for Schaller. My guess is that you'll find those online stores either don't actually have it in stock or have some old stock. As always, I could be wrong.

I remember we went through this several years ago with the replacement bridge for the EB-0. It was on Schaller's website and some stores had it listed but it was discontinued well before. I don't think any of the stores actually had any left.

just got word from a dimarzio dealer that the X2N-B is still available, for $75 bucks.
take 7-10 days special order..

I wonder how 2 of these would sound in the LP standard.

Twice as bad as one of them.
