Gibson Basses / Re: Gibson Mona-Steel Strings
« on: October 07, 2010, 07:35:41 PM »
I was at a local music store about ten years ago or so, & they had three sets of Gibson NOS bass strings from the sixties, probably the sets made after the orange box. One set was normal, one flat wound and the other black vinyl coated flat wounds. All short scale of course! I'll post a picture if I can remember where I stuck them.

I just had a guy ask me a week ago if I had ever seen a left handed compensated stop tailpiece for a Les Paul Junior...... I didn't think they ever made one & now this pops up.     :o

I had mine 35 years ago at a time when you stayed in the hospital for a week afterward. A co worker had his done orthoscopicaly (spelling?), they punctured his colon, he had to be opened up also, everything taken out, cleaned and put back. He's lucky to be alive!

I've got no worries there. Everytime I've got GAS she's cheering me on to buy or at least put in a bid. No, I promised myself to decrease my "collection" so I should be selling instead of buying....  It's the ol' clash between emotions and rational thinking .....

Stood on a ridge and shunned religionThinking the world was mine,
I made my break and a big mistake Sellin' when I should have been buying.

I've got all Plant's solo stuff so I got this one too.

I gotta tell ya that after my first run thru I ain't diggin' it much; it's probly his weakest solo effort yet & of all his catalog only his album with Page called Walking into Clarksdale is worse.

I've got Walking into Clarksdale. I had a tough time listening to it the one time I tried.   :puke:

Right when I think I've heard all the good 'old' stuff, I see a lyric I've never heard and now I need to go find that song. That's a great freakin' stanza!

I had to order the CD a few days ago............. We use to play Easy Livin' and Stealin' is a great tune that needs to be on my iPod.

Mine is the Minnesota North Shore of Lake Superior. Unfortunately none of my personal photos are scanned.

My wife & I just returned from a couple days in Duluth last weekend!

"Stealin" was a great tune  :toast:  We were driving through Wisconsin, heading to some guitar show, a local radio station played it! I don't think I'd heard it in 30 years! Now I might have to buy the CD.  :-\

I am a Gemini also. Maybe that explains my compulsion to collect Gibson guitar and bass twins....  :o
The mating guitar is usually the more expensive of the two. I still need the Thunderbird / Firebird combo, that will cost me plenty for not getting them ten years ago.............

Gibson Basses / Re: Gibson Les Paul Lo-Z pickups by EMG?

I wonder if anybody has ever tried a low impedance mudbucker... :o  A stacked humbucker with the same gage wire as the Les Paul Bass, only sideways.  :-\  The mudbucker cover is big enough to cover a massive coil, and it can be made adaptable to go in any of the EB series basses.... It may not sound exactly the same, but it might be interesting! There may even be enough room for the coils to be positioned normaly, if the shape is slighly altered.
