It does give a feeling he is throwing those in there because he can, rather than adding to the song.

Bosse Haggstrom was the original bass player in Made in Sweden. Great player. But it's not him in that..hrrrm..tune(?). That's the kind of music that makes one nothing but tired. Boring!!! It's not the original drummer either. He, Slim Borgudd, went to Formula 1 driving. Good move... and fast, too!

I knew I had seen him somewhere before! (see 0:13)

Good player... not to take anything away form the vocal and dance stylings of Gregorius  ;D

I never liked it with him either, then or now. Always preferred Stanley Clarke who just had more of a rock edge to his playing. There is something extremely masculine in how Stanley plays, almost Jimi Hendrix-like.

We've taken too much for granted ... and all the time it had grown ...
From techno seeds we first planted ... evolved a mind of its own ...

+10000 that is exactly how I feel. Noodley, jazzy low power stuff always bored me. I always was attracted to rock influenced playing as well. Smooth jazz is forbidden to go there.

+10001! Jaco was amazing, but I just never liked the overall vibe of his stuff, regardless of who he was playing with. Makes me sleepy. Like Pat Methany.  8)

Gimme Brand X with Percy Jones and John Goodsall!

I generally don't care for smooth jazz- especially the clinical, boring, perfection that they play on the radio here.  There are some exceptions, though, that get lumped into that genre... Joshua Redman, Brad Mehldau, Ahmad Jamal...

I always liked Flim & the BBs.  Mellow, but still interesting (to me).  Jimmy Johnson is just a tasteful, melodic player if I ever heard one:

As for Pat Metheny, this is my all-time favorite Metheny/Jaco track.  Listen to him shred at 1:30!
