If more people at this good place is interested in Baby Grandmothers, let me remind you that guitarist Kenny Håkansson was a memeber of that band, the Mecki Mark Men, and Kebnekaise too. So was drummer Pelle Ekman. The pair's been playing together for around 45 years now!
Last year I went to a concert with Kebne, as they are called. As I know those guys in the band, they are all closer to 65 than 55, long ago were heavy influenced by English instrumental guitar group The Shadows, I approached one of the bass players, Göran Lagerberg, once in Swedish pop group Tages, and asked him, just for fun, which guitar player was Hank B Marvin, and which one was Bruce Welch? He looked at me as he was looking at a fool.
But don't worry, partners: I had counted on that reaction!
Then he turned around to leave. I pulled the next question:
- So there ain't no Jet Harris (legendary bass player in The Shadows, roll model for a generation of European bassists) in the band?
Lagerberg stopped. Turned around. Looked at me with halfclosed red eyes, and a big smile:
- Well that's me, off course! Must be!
Here you have Kebne from a gig last year.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yk4NXhB4t-M&feature=relatedIn the first version of Kebne, as a fourpiece, the second guitarist beside Kenny H was guy called Rolf Scherrer. He died -94, heart failure. But before that, he was part of another great Swedish rock band called Jaguar. Sorry, can't find them on the tube. Remember the name. One of Swedens best bands, ever!
And while we're at it: Bo Hansson, organist in duo Hansson and Karlsson, died two weeks ago. He had been in bad shape, lately. 40 years ago something, he made a record with music inspired by Lord of the Rings. Nice guy. Wish he was here.
