Gibson Basses / Scott's Thunderbird Garage is now open
« on: October 19, 2008, 07:46:49 AM »
Looks like I have some time on my hands. I am going to be taking  orders for non reverse Thunderbird bodies in the II and IV configuration and orders for non reverse pickguards. I will also be building JE Fenderbird bodies. I don't have pricing worked out yet, for starters bodies will be unfinished. Some pics of my work.

Gibson Basses / It's alive ! Well sort of, Thunderbird content
« on: October 19, 2008, 07:29:32 AM »
Well it has been quite a long haul to get this bass up and running. This weekend I installed the nut and and bridge and was finaley able to string this bad boy up. Has a wonderful resonance and Dolan's neck plays fantastic ! Right now she's pup less I am going to send a '76 cover to Seymour Duncan for a 60's repro pup. In the mean time I need to route the control cavity and get some top coat on. She started out like this.

Gibson Basses / Player '67-'68 EBO-3 snagged off ebay
« on: October 05, 2008, 06:13:29 AM »
Well it was more than I could take. This well worn EBO  was up this morning with a BIN of $650. Looks solid and I hope with a good set up it plays well. I can't see paying the bucks they want for a SG bass and right now there is no way I can afford a nice 60's EB3 like my fav bassist Jimmy Lea used before he got his John Birch so I think this will fit the bill nicely. I might replace the full size humbucker with a mini, I like the location of the bridge pickup better than where Gibson put 'em. I'll keep ya posted.

The Bass Zone / Gig report last Sun
« on: August 07, 2008, 09:50:42 AM »
We played at Nola's BBQ on their very nice outdoor stage last Sun 5-9, Great sound system and a good crowd for the weather we had, cloudy and in the 70's up by the lake.  My almost 11 year old daughter took these shots, I was pretty impressed ! This was during our "Hammer Of The Gods" Zep tribute set, note the J bass, I have never seen pictures of me playing a J...................... looks weird !

« on: August 01, 2008, 05:10:57 AM »
The local store has two count 'em two new 4003s ! One Jetglo the other Mapleglo. They are both super nice basses love the edge to edge inlays and the walnut wings on the headstock, and the slimmer profile neck. I am going to put a deposit on the mapleglo   ;D

Gibson Basses / 60's Thunderbird pickup anyone have one ?
« on: July 09, 2008, 04:13:48 AM »
As I am am writing this I am trying to figure out the pickup situation and I think I have a solution. I have a 60's pup that I was going to put into the Phoenix the shard of a NR tbird I bought off ebay and restored. Now I think I will put the original pick up in this beast of a '67 NR and put a Seymour Duncan repro in the Phoenix. Thoughts fellow Tbird nuts. Or if anyone has a 60's they want to sell let me know, I know it's the longest of long shots.

Gibson Basses / Let the healing begin, '67 Thunderbird
« on: July 06, 2008, 11:17:19 AM »
The last thing I need to be doing is screwing around with basses, I should be packing. I's been driving me nuts I don't have studs to mount the damn bridge ! I had Roy on the phone from RS last Thurs and I forgot to order some Tonepro studs. Sooooooooooooooooooooo I improvised. I took two round head woods screws with a head dia. that fit the bridge channel cut them to the right length. Next I wraped the thread end in masking tape so the were snug in the stud insert and gently screwed them in, presto stop gap bridge studs ! Hardware first then paint !

Gibson Basses / White Epi EB3
« on: July 03, 2008, 01:58:13 PM »
I just got Rocknraydukes white Epi EB3 I love this bass ! I had a cherry one when they first came out, I put a 60's mudbucker in it and it sounded fantastic, I'll do the same with this. To be honest this is one of my favorite versions of the EB3. The thicker 70's body but more sculpted like a 60's, long scale neck with a much better profile than the 70's EB3s and the fingerboard is nice and low on the body. For the $ ihmo this is a great value in the EB3 world. Pics to come. Ok heres a lousy one

The Bass Zone / Fenderbird For Sale
« on: June 17, 2008, 04:52:37 PM »
I just bought a '67 NR Thunderbird  :) and I have to pay for it  :-[ so here we go. built this bass using Warmoth parts. The body is mahogany pro finished at a friends auto body shop. The neck rosewood on rosewood with mop dot inlay and Schaller tuners. Badass II bridge and a passive MM style pickup. The pickguard is a custom made and has a laser etched Thunderbird logo. There is one 1/2 inch long shallow ding on the top edge of the lower bought on the body. I built this for two modern rock tunes we were doing some years back. I had it strung BEAD right now it is strung EADG. I used this bass maybe a dozen times, very low miles and aside from the one ding it is in like new condition. Hows $550 shipped in the lower 48 . I will put it up on ebay in the next day or so but I will end early if one of you guys want it. Thanks Scott

With the finishing of my my Model G NRbird  I have decided to start building Fenderbird bodies. I plan to offer three body styles, JAE Thunderbird, JAE Extreme Cutaway Thunderbird and a Nonreverse Thunderbird.  I will sell bodies outright or do complete builds. I am also compiling a list of those who make after market Thunderbird parts as a resource for those who want to build or need parts. I believe Uwe coined the phrase " Thunderbird Garage" and that will be my shops name.  We are moving Aug. 4th I won't be set up to build till fall but I am working on getting everything in place to start being able to take orders. If anyone is interested please contact me and we can talk about what you'd like. Thanks, Scott
