« on: April 13, 2011, 08:11:14 AM »
I've seen this: http://www.fender.com/it-IT/products/search.php?partno=0266202321
This is the guitar version: http://www.fender.com/en-GB/products/pawnshop/models.php?prodNo=0266200

"guitars that never were but should have been" , i wonder what they'll come up with. Maybe a P with an added Humbucker against the neck?...

Gibson Basses / Help identification Tbird pickups
« on: November 12, 2010, 07:09:00 AM »
Hey lads, i've found these pickups for sale on the net, can you tell me, by the pics, if they're original Gibsons? Looks to be from two different eras, the seller states that one is a "soapbar" and the other's a single coil (??). Hope he hasn't sold them yet.

Thanks a load.

Gibson Basses / New Gibson BFG Les Paul - 3 P.U.'s
« on: November 10, 2010, 03:31:47 AM »
I really do prefer the look of a classic Les Paul. The 3 p.u.'s configuration seems interesting.
I guess we'll soon get a review from Frankfurt...(ist das so Uwe?).

Fender Basses / '78 P string height problems
« on: October 01, 2010, 01:44:46 AM »
Hi lads, i hope somebody can help me with my problem.
I have a '78 P bass on which i've had a Squier baseball neck for 10+ years. Now i've used that neck on my homebuild Fenderbird and wanted to put the original neck back on the P. The problem is that it's much thinner than the Squier neck and, although it's the original neck, i'm unable to lower the string action, the saddles can't get lower while touching the plate and the action is still way too high. The neck pocket hasn't been stripped down and neither has the neck heel (they both have the original stamps).
I don't think the bridge is original so i would like to know if someone gould give me the minimum height of an original Fender bridge. The one on my bass has a 2 mm plate and 8 mm saddles making the lowest possible string heigh,t at the bridge, 10 mm (1 cm/0.3937"   ;D ).
I wanted to sell the bass because of economic issues, but i sure can't get much out of a bass that needs extra wood to raise the neck. I'm open for suggestions, thanks. Here's a pic that says it all.

Rickenbacker Basses / Difference between bridge pickups
« on: June 17, 2010, 06:21:19 AM »
I've seen there's different kinds of original Rick bridge pickups, is there a great tonal difference between the "classic" 4003 (the one with the big cover), the toaster and the HB1?
Am i wrong supposing it's the neck pickup that gives that unique Rick "Klonking" sound?
Thanks

Bass Amps & Effects / Celestion sidewinder - Is it any good
« on: June 11, 2010, 05:36:19 AM »
Does any of you know if the Celestion sidewinder is any good? I think Marshall used it in a bass cab back in the '80s. It's rated as 250W. I want to build be an smaller alternative to my 4x12 Greenback cab, to use with a JMP superbass head. Any suggestions?

I finally finished my first bass....and it works. I tried it this morning on my Marshall JMP and it sounds great.
The body is Mahogany (from my parents old table....aged 20 years in a smokers living room...  ;D);
Squier II P bass neck;
Dimarzio Model G humbucker;
Volume control and 3 way Parallel/Single/Serie toggle switch.
I've downsized the body a little to have a smaller and less heavy bass than my 78 P bass.
I must say that the best sound is in the single and parallel position, but must check it with the band to see how it works in the mix.
Next project will be a lefty les paul bass with the Tbird pickups i've got from Scott. I'd like to make it a 32" scale but are having a hard time finding a neck...If anybody has one, let me know.

The graphic artwork is handpainted by my 4 years old son and 1 1/2 year old daughter....just like the kitchen wall behind...I love it.
