Nice, i've been looking at these kits for a while, but i wouldn't like a long scale V. Is it 34" as said in the description?

I'm using the right ones. I knew the Lic. where not reversible. I think i probably just have to find the right allen key..

edit.: i fixed it using a torx size TT7.

Bill's Shop: Projects, Mods & Repairs / Hipshot ultralite help needed
« on: September 23, 2015, 02:03:22 AM »
I've bought some used Hipshot ultralite keys to cure some neck dive on my bass, but i need to reverse them.
I'd like to know if any of you could confirm that the needed allen key measure is 1/16" which is hard to find around here.
I've tried with a friend who works with HD, but when we found the supposedly right key it was too hard to turn and i'm afraid of rounding out the screw. i was told there's possibly locktite under the screw so i should heat it up....but i'd then risk to melt the plastic washer in the Key.
Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Gibson Basses / Re: Bassbuckers. Again

I think someone here has some Dimarzio guitar buckers in his Hamer, and is happy with it, stating it sounds very P bass alike, can't rememeber who

Saw them at the AC/DC gig, they worked hard to catch the audience and they succeed. The singer even did stage jump. Nice performance.
My friend, who didn't know them, defined them as "a pleasant sounding group", i think that's exactly what they are.

I've found a set of Fender Custom shop J pickups. The seller say it's the old version from the '90, without logo, with rounded pole pieces and with a different color of brass plates. does any of you guys know anything about this?

I'm also looking at a couple of J pickups from an '85 Japanese Fender bass, do you know how to recognize them?

10
Ok, i'll make some experiments tomorrow....hope i don't blow the house...  ;D

Thant's exactly what i wanted. A jazz like tone with both pickups as single coils. But i still got the volume loss.
Do you suggest to connect the single coil with reversed polarity?

Sorry for all these question guys, but i'm just trying to understand how it all works...

12
Lose the toggle (pup selector?) - it is superfluous with the blend knob; more than that, mutually exclusive really.

It runs the Dimarzio in parallel/single/serie, there's quite some difference in sound.

I too have never used the tone pot, that's why i havent installed one, i was just afraid of all the things i hear/read in the net about using a 500K pot with a single coil.

13
Right.....then i'll need to install a tone pot too.... but i have no place to put it since i also have the toggle switch....i could use a stacked pot....damn, now i remember why i love basses with only one pickup.  ???

14
Ok, thanks for the help guys. I'll go through the wiring this weekend.
I think i'm going to order a blend pot....

edit.. is it me or do 250/500k blend pots not exist?  :-[

edit².. and why the hell can i only find linear taper blend pots? wouldn't that cut out one pick up at once, instead of rolling down it's signal smoothly?

15
damn... ok, then Kohm....
Initially i wanted to go with a blend pot, but i've read a lot about how they never open both pickups at max...probably not true...

When you invert the polarity doesn't it change the sound? would it consist in just wiring the pickups opposite?
