Gents, it's Friday night, and we all need a kick-ass musical experience every now and then.

I invite you to turn this up, enjoy my band, and get your weekend started right.

That's awesome! And it's got some of the Munsters theme in it! Thanks for posting!

Thanks!

My band is now classic rock and blues, but this is my favorite number that I carried over from the band's previous incarnation as a surf band.  The lead guitarist is really good - he takes longer solos in the middle now.

Pipeline is one number that draws people - when we play it in an open air setting, we always have more people there when we finish than when we started.  It's a real crowd pleaser.

If you're going to carry one over that's a good one. I love surf music anyway so it's good to hear a different but faithful take on it!

not pipeline but another classic from the same era. note how minimal everyone's gear is and they still get a great sound. btw that's larry taylor's brother mel on drums.

for good measure one more pipeline.

LOVE that Ventures cut!

I note that the bass player is pickin' about as fast as you'll ever see in a music video.  Adds a lot to the number.

We use to play WipeOut a lot (of course) and we had a standing deal - the drummer (early 60's in age) would announce the song, introducing it by telling the audience that if you played drums in the 60's, there was one number that you HAD TO master and play at every gig.  Of course, that was WipeOut.

That number is a real workout for the drummer - as you can see.  our guy used to do it as the last number before a break so he could recuperate during the break.

I like the Anthrax version, but where did they get the idea it was a Dick Dale tune?

Oh well, half the people I talk to think that all surf music was played by the Beach Boys.

A pleasant version done very well.  It gave me some peaceful moments in what has been an unusually hectic day.  I wish I could have started out my Friday night with it.  But here it is Saturday night.  Better late than never, though.

Well done Pilgrim!! Thanks for sharing.

I like all of these songs/versions but I admit to being partial to the Johnny Thunders version as well.

I like that Johnny Thunders version!  He understands the reverb that belongs in surf.

But my all time favorite version - and the one I took the double-time bass line from when I play - is this one done by SRV and Dick Dale in 1987 for the movie Back to the Beach!  I like listening to it and telling which one of them is playing lead just from listening.  Man, what different styles.

Unfortunately this whole clip didn't make it into the final film - there's only a short clip of in the final movie I got (maybe mine is edited?)  But I still enjoyed it.  It was essentially a "Frankie and Annette go back as the parents" remake of the silly beach blanket movies.  Just good silly fun.

The second time I heard Pipeline I thought, "Hey, they're covering Hanoi rocks!"

Their lead singer had quite the androgynous semi-David Bowie thing going there.
