"life is a blur of republicans and meat"- zippy the pinhead

Back in the day I had a Pistols rehearsal tape with this song. Lydon didn't know the lyrics, it made for very fun listening.

I'm no suspect for Pistols adulation, but I think this is kinda cute (isn't that the most damning statement for the Sex Pistols: "kinda cute"?), Lydon comes across as a mix of Boy George and Iggy Pop with a hint of off-the-wall Bowie. We all know that he is not a singer in the classic sense, but his voice has authority on this track. And with that kind of music, hitting all the right notes is a waste.

Not bad. But not as fun as the Bruddahs.
We've taken too much for granted ... and all the time it had grown ...
From techno seeds we first planted ... evolved a mind of its own ...

Nothing wrong with it to my ears. It's Lydon 2007, I don't expect him to be Lydon 1977, even if he is covering a 1972 Modern Lovers song.

OK, entertaining torture laced with nostalgia tinted memories for some.  I never listened to them in the past, so I'm approaching this with virgin ears.  Just not my cup o' tea, mate.

Bill, you don't need to make apologies for not liking it!

Not an apology Dave, just framing my state of mind when I watched it.  I've never been able to warm up to alternative forms of rock.  I'm just an old mainstream geezer!  I do still like The Clash, Blondie and the like.

Didn't do anything for me, either Bill - no perceptible melody and entirely incoherent lyrics.  "Louie, Louie" blows it out of the water.

The biggest kick for me was hearing Johnny Rotten thank the audience repeatedly at the end and not ironically.

Thanks for posting.  I still love the Pistols.

As you should!  Musical tastes here are incredibly diverse and that's a positive feature of our little world at the Outpost.  There's something for everyone!

Personally I prefer Norwegian classical music performed by Swiss folk metal bands.

WOW!!  WOW!!!

I LOVED that!! First thing I've seen online in years that has prompted me to stand up and dance!!

I admit that the Hall of the Mountain King is one of my all-time favorites in classical music, but that was possibly the most kick-ass interpretation of classical that I have ever heard!!  I gotta love the idea of a metal band with bagpipes and bassoon.

Holy crap, I may be a fan of Swiss folk Metal!  How will I explain it to my wife and kids??

But in the folowing clip, they are decsribed as "Pagan Metal".  I'll bet Mark could get into that!

Incidentally, I watched that whole piece about how they created the Hall of the Mountain King. I found it fascinating.

Whatever the hell that is that she is cranking by hand and playing like a keyboard I want one! :o  Could this be the inspiration for the "Keytar"?

Here's another lovely mashup - my wife was reading the weekend section of the paper, yes, I know but I'm old and old habits die hard, that the Hillbenders are bring their bluegrass performance of Tommy to town soon - WTF ???

For your viewing pleasure.....
