Nope, that has different pups too!!! I'm actually quite curious how it will sound.

It was time too. The TB Plus pups (and I like them) had gone as far as they can go development-wise. I also hear a trend in more recent modern rock that bass sounds become brighter again (just a bit, but noticeable), that is something Gibson has to take into account for its future customers.

FWIW, Sweetwater, Amazon and a few other sites are still listing a 2015 V series Bass for $3999. Still no pics though.

I wonder who they think is the target market for a $4k V shaped bass.

It's a bit different than the one on the EB, also the 'Bird a spacer block underneath it to raise it up, probably to compensate for the neck relief - I wasn't diggin' it.

Right. I remember, we discussed this earlier. I mentioned the negative comments elsewhere about Babicz' Telecaster bridges because they needed shims. IMHO if you're going to make an OEM bridge or what's supposed to be a drop-in replacement, you need to get it right without spacers or shims.

According to Chris P., his information is that it's not a Flying V shape, the diagram he saw has a body more like the shape of the discontinued EB Bass but with an inline headstock.

I wonder whether it will ever be issued. Whatever it is, it's way too high for a production Gibson.

I'd rejoice if it were a good quality, long scale Flying V. Nothing says "and I never grew up" better!

Or older! But it was for artistic values really, like the visualisation of a syncopated bass drum here at 1:08, succinct! When art and life melt into one ...

Why name a 4 string bass V if not for the shape. Now a 5 string of any style could easily be granted the V moniker.

Gibson has a grand tradition of naming non-Flying V basses a, uhm, V Bass!

Yes, I saw that. But that's Sweetwater's decision, not Gibson's. None of the other stores listing them for sale have any pictures or graphics.

Scroll down the 2015 Gibson lineup page at The Music Zoo and you'll see the outline drawing I mentioned. Only they only mention a five string, and other sites say it will be in both four and five versions.

Who knows what will finally show up, if it shows up at all.

I'm pretty sure they will call the 4-string model a IV. Looks like they are planning a modern version of the 80's V/IV basses, maybe using leftover EB bodies?

Pah, you're just jealous that those chicks in your shoegazer bands aren't as hot as Ms Lorraine Lewis!!!

The EB Bass bodies are ash. If the Music Zoo site is correct, these will have AAA maple tops on chambered mahogany bodies.

Wait, I think I understand now why these will be $4000 basses! Gibson will put $2500 in loose bills in the chambers!

But they'll be made of the finest conservation certified woods, Dave, not any crap stuff coming out of India or Madagascar of dubious origin!
