It has a hard case shaped like the bass. By the way, if you haven't completely set your itinerary I'll suggest you spend a day or two in the San Juan Islands
http://www.visitsanjuans.com/
They are stunningly beautiful, we Washingtonians don't let too many folks know about them, we even had a little conflict with our aggressive Commonwealth neighbours to the north over them called the "Pig War", glad we won that!

The bass is very fun, not so much for what my band does but it's quite nice on a variety of styles of music, it has a peculiar woofy bark on the solo'd bridge pup - sounds just like whatever was used on "Old Admirals" by Al Stewart!

Be sure to allow adequate time to search for Indian rosewood supplies for Henry.

Second the vote for the San Juans!!  They are lovely jewels in the waters of the strait.

Geez Mark, take the group to a Mariners game if they're still playing....that's gotta be fun.

I won't be making Uwe and Edith sit thru that very American form of torture know as Baseball Al  ;). Way better things to do in Washington - I'm hoping a visit to Orcas Island is possible, it's soooooo beautiful there!

By late Sept. we'll be talking Seahawks  ;D

Well, that's true (I lost track of the visit date) and the Seahawks are definitely first-class. I suppose Uwe and Edith can pass on the hot dogs and American beer at Safeco Field.

Orcas Island is very cool, and a great visit.  Also nicely walkable near the ferry dock.  I had the fun of staying there for a couple of days some years ago, and really enjoyed it.

Would Tillicum Village be worth it for the salmon?  Back in the early 60's my godfather Onnie Pakkonnen was the indian agent in Neah Bay - when we visited they took us to a real Makah salmon bake.  Most fantastic meal ever.

Tillicum is a bit tourista, so probably not there.  One thing about Seattle anymore is that there is no shortage of really good places to eat any kind of cuisine, esp. fish. We had fresh Steelhead on the BBQ last night!........ :P

Then again, I don't know if Uwe even likes fish!  ;D

On Orcas Island Eastsound is very nice to stay at :)

To not like smoked or Makah-baked salmon is unAmmurican!

Wait, Uwe's not 'Murrican.

Never mind.

Hey, he's gonna have a great time.  If nothing else, a stroll along Alaska Way playing tourista is a fun side trip.

I don't like salmon.  :P  I don't like fish. They smell. Why do you think they have that frown on their faces all the time? They have to smell the other fish.

TBird1958

Ya let one Woman swim in the Ocean.......and you never get the smell outta the fish  :P

BTW if Salmon is fresh it doesn't have that "smell" or a lot less of it.

Honest Dave, when I went to that Makah salmon bake I was 13 and hated EVERYTHING that wasn't a burger or hot dog. This experience reformed me!

The Makah indians take the salmon, fillet it and use cedar stakes to fan it out and mount it on a large cedar stake next to a roaring bonfire on the beach.  It cooks by reflected heat and gains flavor from the bonfire smoke.

Eaten warm with a nice spritz of fresh lemon juice, it is nectar of the gods.  Even to a picky 13-year-old.

Here's a shot of a salmon fillet I smoked last week:

I find baseball much less bewildering than American Football, that rugby offshoot invented to give people time to go to the fridge during all those breaks. Baseball has grace and elegance, American Football is professional wrestling with an egg-shaped ball.

But I'd go to both! You can't get any more American, can you?

Oh my, you and Edith would get along just fine. Neither jazz rock nor fish.

We have a very good butcher just a couple blocks away, the Salmon is excellent, very fresh! We have tried and liked many recipes over the years, one of my faves involved rubbing the Salmon with dry chipoltle, grilling, then a salsa made from fresh blackberries.

Uwe, you'll be going to a Mariners game on your own  ;D  I can't consume enough alcohol to make baseball interesting.
