My wife & I are taking a road trip through Arkansas then swinging up through Memphis. I don't know if any basses are built at this factory, but I'm going to check it out. Two years ago, we were in Nashville, only to find out that the factory tour had moved to Memphis after the flood. I hear the Nashville tour wasn't much. We are staying at a hotel just across the street from the Gibson facility off of Beale Street.

Nice!  Please ask them to consider making a better 60s T bird reissue with a single pickup option for us. Have a great trip.
Contrary to what James Bond says, a good Gibson should be stirred, not shaken.

We did the tour last summer., it was great.  They made the 335 bass there.  In fact, they only make 335 and hollow body electric guitars there.  Be sure to call the day before for tickets or you won't get in.  If you show up the day of, the tickets are typically gone.
I'm fixin' a hole where the rain gets in..........cuz I'm built for a kilt!

Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

The tour is a lot of fun but it's tightly controlled. No cameras allowed.

One tip is to try to go before 3pm on a weekday. You'll likely see more people actually working then. And give yourself some time to hang out in the factory store. It's not really a factory store as the vast majority of instruments in the store were not made at the factory. It's more of a Gibson store that happens to be located at the factory. You can't plug in or strap on any of the instruments but you can sit on a stool and play them. They had a few basses in the store.

Enjoy Memphis! My wife and I visited in February and had a great time.

I thought I read somewhere that no cameras were allowed.............. All that was really mentioned was parking issues. We are staying at the Hampton just across the street from Gibson, should be able to walk to quite a few attractions from there.

$20 if you wear a T-shirt that says "I lLOVE OBAMA!!" on it or "SAVE THE RAINFORESTS."

I took the Nashville tour years ago. Best part was the hot blonde tour guide in the bus that brought us there. The young wife of some Nashville musician/Gibby user. She was bored and hung out with us "NY Rockers."

They don't like you taking pictures so the public cannot see company secrets or dirt.
I actually have one photo Gibson heads sent me years back when I wrote a feature on them. I called them up laughing, asking if they actually ever LOOK at anything before they send it out to media.
It was a worker at a belt sander and written on the wall next to him by some bottles, in magic marker, it read "LubriCUNTS."

I kept it...but did not print it in the magazine feature :)

I wonder if David Letterman ever did "Top Ten Reasons to get kicked out of the Gibson Factory"??
Should I ask them why they've never reissued the 20/20?   :vader: :vader: :vader:
