Does it have the red dots on the side of the fingerboard?  I believe all 74's do.  Great looking bass.

Yes it does have the red dots. Thanks.

LoEndMaestro

Yup, those red dots were a one year only anomaly for Ricks. My '74 has them as well. Congrats on the bass! Clank on good sir, clank on.

Very cool - sounds like you snagged a good one!

I am so jealous...congratulations

Beauty, and I'm glad it plays and sounds as good as it looks.

Yeah I really struck gold with this one. I honestly could not have ever expected it to be this good. Set up perfectly and ready to go right out of the case. Plays great and sounds better. I did very little other than play it this weekend. I shined it up and lowered the bridge pickup a little. It's actually better than I thought it would be after talking to the seller. He was downplaying it a bit. Told me it was very clean but not to expect mint as it is a used vintage instrument. He did say it played and sounded great. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a '74 in better condition.

That is so great to hear!

Well while I was in the city this week for work I chanced across this 93 4001 V63. I offered a couple hundred less and they said yes. It was too hard to resist. That neck, so slim, so racy, and the beautiful blue Dale Fortune refin. It think it compliments my Jetglo 4001 and is different enough to justify having it. There, I said it. This one has flats on it. Going to spend some quality time with it this eve but thought I'd post a couple pics first.

Beauty. And hopefully it won't turn green like some of the factory Blue Boys did.

Do I detect a theme here ... pale pastel blue basses ... ?
The random mind of a Silver Surfer...
If research was easy, it wouldn't need doing...
Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

Guilty. But I'd much rather that NR we were discussing be white than blue.

Wow does this V63 sound and play great. The neck is a dream. It has Chromes on it and is much punchier and more articulate than any other bass I've had them or any other flats on really. I rolled back the neck volume a pinch and it just sings. I love how it responds to digging in and/or backing off with your right hand attack and how good it sounds no matter how hard you play. Played it with a pick some too. That's some full, in your face, take no prisoners percussive clack! I figured I would end up taking the flats off because the 74 sounded so great with steel round wounds but I'm going to leave them on. Definitely a couple of basses that are going to see some case time after buying these two.

Dave W

Sometimes a certain combination just clicks. Strings that you don't feel strongly about wind up working out great on a particular bass. Glad you're enjoying it so much.

Black and blue - nice!

Flats are a great choice for that V63.
