Somebody posted this to my facebook wall - Golden Earring. Looks like a modded Dano double neck with a Fender neck up top.

Rinus has had some very cool ideas for bass builds.

Les Claypool's Carl Thompson 4-string has made an appearance in this thread but THIS is the six string model he made famous from when he was doing it. I'm a not a huge Primus fan by any stretch, but seeing them live in Asheville about ten years ago was one of the BEST sounding and most musically enjoyable concerts I've ever been to. The crowd of rich-kid hipster posers sucked but the band sounded BETTER live than on CD and I'm not talking about visceral rock and roll emotion. They are some SERIOUS musicians.

Yes, Alembic 8. From what I can tell, he had at least two of these, one with pirate-themed fingerboard inlays. That one eventually ended up in Entwistle's collection.

Geezer was using Vigier for a while.  I do remember that.

Vigier makes some great stuff. My guitar player was a Vigier endorser for 20+ years.

Vigier makes some great stuff.

Patrick Dahlheimer of Live, arguably their biggest profile endorser at the time, dropped them after they got famous with 'Throwing Copper.' Vigier went from being the bass on every track of their previous albums to just a couple on 'Secret Samadhi' and his tone and playing suffered for it. Vigiers have a very distinct active sound, much too aggressive to be the French-made instruments they are. They DID sound good for Geezer and they're about as far from a vintage P-Bass sound as you can get.
