They work because they rarely actually get together except onstage. Their albums are FTP'ed track by track from each member's home studio and mixed in the label's studio, but when they're not touring, they basically don't even know each other.

But they have done a lot of touring haven't they?  At least I think they used to.  Plus, the band has been together for years.  I read somewhere that the bassist doesn't even tour with them anymore.  I don't know for sure.  I've never seen them live.

Another one: Deep Purple Mk. III!

Does it count if they also play an instrument?  ;D

Not sure.  I'm sure people could make all kinds of categorizations with various bands if they wanted to, of course.

They do spot tours and partials. I don't think they've done any extensive touring in almost a decade. They had a good idea with their first two albums and the music is still good, but the magic is gone. It's just boring now.

Then what I read about the bassist may be true.  Maybe he is mostly involved with something else.  I think I may have also read they are working on a new album.  I was never really a fan, but years ago I did buy a few of their albums.  Then I lost touch for the most part.

It worked quite a while for these guys here:

Yes, I know, I just went up a few notches on the uncoolometer. Not only do I remember Three Dog Night, I have the nerve to post them. Still have a soft spot for them.

Nor do they make dry ice machines like they used to either!   The one they used here must have been a remnant from the Tirpitz' camouflage system vis-à-vis the RAF!

I thought they were okay until they put out that stupid Black and White single in the early 70s. Good singers. Embarrassingly bad stage duds though, even for that era.

My favorite song by them was Never Been to Spain.

They sure had a hand in picking songs from not yet established songwriters and turning them into hits. And through all that non-original material you could still recognize them after a few seconds. As for their live presentation ..., well that already had cabaret act/Las Vegas written on its forehead before even they thought about that part of their career.

I liked Tony Orlando & Dawn's Tie a Yellow Ribbon too btw!   :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

That was only one lead singer.

Never thought much of Tony one way or the other until I found out he was a big Bobby Darin fan. That made me appreciate him a little.

Anyone for some ABBA...?

Of course! No shame in that. ABBA were brilliant. Incidentally, Ritchie likes them too.

But Britain had some real quality too:

I don't know if this can be viewed in Europe, but if not, that's probably a good thing.
