Nicely done, and unique as usual.

I'v probably seen that  bass, but no.  I've built a number of basses for Uli Salm, starting with JAEbirds, REVs, and the MAX prototype. This was the last build for him.

Slab body with gut cut, Jazz neck.

So this one is a progression from that. Uli owns a lot of second generation Precisions so he wanted a contoured body but with a J profile neck and TBird pups. The concept was the pups and refin were done in the late 60s and then it was well played.

That's an Allparts 'Tele' neck shaved and tapered to 1-1/2" at the nut. He was OK with either a TBird bridge or the two saddle.   I owned a 55 and thought the two saddle adequate so I did it that way.

clankenstein

Louder bass!.

Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

Two Thunderbuckers have got to sound better than any P/J combo.

ThunderBucker 63 in the neck. DiMarzio jazz under TB cover in bridge, Uli wanted more treble output.  Balance isn't perfect but there are a lot of tones available.

SwampFest '18...shaking down the REV102 Tenner

ThunderBuckers wouldn't quite cover the string spread.  So I went with Aguilar G3 40 series, 4 inches wide.

Now, my Don, all you need for the next photoshoot, is a crisp white shirt, a tux, and maybe, just maybe, a single red rose... ;)

I'd settle for a photographer. ;)

Coool.  Photos like that always make me wonder... What do you do with the scrap after you cut a body?

Sometime I can use them but mostly they just pile up.  The poplar Oxbird uses two cutoffs for the lower body triangles and there's going to be a big piece from the top once I cut it out. It'g getting painted

The BigBottom II is one piece spalted Alder.  It smells like a cross between artichokes, wet grass clippings, and brown paper towel when I route it.  Really soft and light even though its a hair under 2 inches thick and about 10-15% larger than a precision body.
