Cataldo/ThunderBucker 10 string bridge and tailpiece for the Tenner TBird proto.

From bottom left, clockwise

Prototype tailpiece I made from aluminum channel.

Nickel Silver blank fabbed at ThunderBucker Ranch in Dedford, Oregon.

Blank drilled (18 holes), countersunk, and polished in the swamp.

Completed bridge assembly, Nickel silver channel, AL insert, and modded saddle carrier assemblies from a pair of Schaller 471-8 bridges.  Hopefully I'll find a use for the other three carriers.

34"scale Tbird that fits in a Fender case.  I 'ebonized' the fretboard with Fiebings after cleaning thoroughly with denatured alcohol.  It works!

Ebonized rosewood?

Jatoba. It's a modded Ibanez six string neck made in Indonesia. Dual trussrod. They'll back bow a 45-130 fundamental/19-56 octave string set.

1/32" 3 ply aviation grade plywood front and back.  No flex under tension

Geezer Dots. 1/8" plastruct.

Preliminary setup. L.A. trip and Hurricane Michael put me behind schedule.  I really like the way lemon oiled Jatoba  looks.

Ebony board on the 12er.

Very nice, but I got to admit my heart pounds a bit harder/faster for that yellowed out Bicee.  :P

I bought its twin new in 1977, straight traded it around '83 for a '77 StingRay which I still have.  Dave facilitated acquiring this one from the original owner around five years ago.  Compared to my '64s it's lacking.  Heavier, cruder in execution, and weak pickups in comparison to my '64s.  But I guess that's to be expected in a Reissue.

I modded a bridge to fit two of the three point posts on the BiCen, that helps.

5 years ago? I didn't think it had been that long, so I looked in my old emails. April 2012!

The guy was a salesman/estimator for a remodeling company, he came to my house to measure for replacement windows and noticed my gear. He mentioned having the Bird and I think I posted about it here. That's how it started. He needed the money, you needed the bass.

AFAIK he's still playing in the far northern suburbs here.

He was really conscientious about touching up dings and scratches, it's in good shape for a bass that was heavily gigged.

CAUTION: RELIC AHEAD
#0000 steel wool

Aging pickguard with dyestain.

Fneder RI '55 for location.  Maple finger rest from headstock scrap. Muriatic acid vapor bath for nickel and chrome.

WTF?

crop circle just like my '55 only it had a black guard on blonde.

rattlecan black, sandpaper, yellow dyestain, and Minwax Jacobean stain for dirt.
