I've been out of action for over a month after hip replacement surgery and been pumped full of pain meds :bored:. Had a little setback when they put a hairline fracture in my femur as they drove the spike with the ball joint into  it  :o. Kinda painfull. Still on a walker part time , but mainly on a cane.
All I can say is it ain't like the brochure ;D.

The hairline fracture thing set me back a good two weeks on the recovery piece and brought a bit of "bonus pain" as well. Something I really needed :P. In short, I'm not feeling like a real tough guy lately :-[. It's coming along slowly but slowly ;).
Thanks guys ;D.

I'm on day 3 of no meds ;D. I was high for 4 1/2 weeks :o Turn the clock back a couple of decades and that would be business as usual, but I just can't handle it at this stage of the game.

Positive vibes, Jim. Positive vibes...

What a bummer, Rick... when did they do the op...? How much longer before they confirm the bone to knit back...? six to eight would be usual for most of us but the musculature is the fun (sic) part...

Demerol is still addictive.  Morphine basically made me sleep after my car accident.  I had a really good doctor.  He told me that I could have morphine every 4 hours to ease the pain, but after 24 hours, I was going to start healing, and not sit back and depend on the medication.  My cousin wasn't so fortunate.  They didn't see demerol as a problem, so gave him all he wanted when he lost his leg, and he ended up addicted to them.

The operation was April 23rd. The fracture is just a hairline that they can't even see on the  X-Ray but I couldn't put any weight on it. Everyone else was kicking their walkers to the side  and going up and down stairs at 10-12 days. At 2 weeks I was not even close to doing any of that.  Also, almost everyone in the group was 10-20 years older than me (at 60) and none of them are anywhere near in as good a physical condition as me.
Getting the musculature together is very strange. When I started with my PT routine, my leg seemed so disconnected, it was like it belonged to someone else  :o. Even after a few weeks of PT it still seems like I only own about 50-60% of the damn thing. I have to really put forth some effort mentally and physically to do pretty simple things. It makes me wonder just how many 80 year old women out there could kick my ass ;D
For the record, I don't care if it's morphine or demoral as long as they keep it coming.
