OK, it's Christmas, I'm happy to be alive and I'm feeling nostalgic.  It's also time to have some fun!  My wife and I met at Ohio University 30 years ago!  It holds a special place in our hearts.  We had our 30th. anniversary last month!  And, we really miss the band.  The football team sucks regularly (just like the Bills here in western NY), so we feel at home here.

Anyway, this is a great band.  Lots of fun and entertaining!  Go Bobcats!   (this is your fault Al, always talking about  the Cougars got me reminiscing).

I'm a UMass Amherst grad. We just trounced Ohio in basketball! Great marching band too, though they tend to lean a little on the dorky side. Congrats on the anniversary.

Go UMass!

I love it, the Minutemen!  Athens, OH, where OU is located, was founded by revolutionary war veterans who received land in the Ohio Territory as payment for their service in the Continental Army.  Like today, the government didn't have any money!!!  The same folks founded the university, too.

Yes, it's been a great 30 years!

But it's The Ohio State University that had the best damn band in the land.

It figures I'd smoke out a Buckeye!!!  Your band's OK, at least they can spell!   ;D  I have to admit, there's nothing like script Ohio.  I used to go to OSU games when I lived in Columbus.  Very cool thing to see live.  OU was founded in 1804, OSU was an afterthought in 1870.  I do envy the size and scope of OSU's programs and research.  OU, being a couple hours from the state capital, could never garner the kind of money and support from the state legislature that OSU has.

I went there for a semester, but transferred to Kent State.  KSU's audiology program was ranked much higher back in the day!  Every college has its strengths.

I do miss Ohio many days.  Lower cost of living, lower taxes, beautiful country, especially the southern half of the state, really nice people.  A good place to live.  I'm thinking a decent place to retire to as well.

Correct....just not the first!   ;D

True, but OSU folks are here to study, obsess over football and burn dumpsters when we lose.  Them Athens folk just like to drink a lot.

Really??? I wonder how much studying band memebers to at either school?  Learning all of those marching/dancing routines has to take hours!   :o

I think most of youse guys would appreciate the unofficial song of the state of Washington - and of WSU - which is "Louie, Louie".  I laugh every time the cougar band plays it. The fact that the entire state embraces it says something nice about the Pacific NW.

And Bill, thanks kindly!  Sharing inspiration is A Good Thing.

Cool Al!  Nice job on a classic tune.  They have a good band there.  Don't ya miss it?  I sure do.  I gotta get my butt down to homecoming some day.  It's only a day's drive from home.
