After 12 years, we had to have Max put down this afternoon.  A fantastic little guy, never loud or aggressive, just a sweet little wooly ball of affection and quirky odd habits.  Loved every minute with him.  This photo was taken about an hour before the trip to the vet.

Al, I'm so sorry. Every day I have with my old girl is a blessing, and I'm sure you felt the same way about Max. He'll always live in your hearts.

My heart goes out to you . I have four cats and I love them all more than I can ever describe.

Sorry for your loss. I know how tough it can be.

My own pup, Raye, passed 2 years ago in my arms.  I cried like a baby.

I think I cried more over Max than I did over my own mom or dad - but they were both 1000 miles away when it happened, we had plenty of warning, and the time of their passing wasn't my decision.  This was definitely my decision, and it's harder to make than I ever expected.  My wife said the same thing - she cried more than when her mom passed..but her mom's mind had been elsewhere for a year, and she had said her good-byes.

Al,

My condolences to you and your wife.
Like a lot of us I had to take my beloved Scottish Terrier to the vet on his last day - Honestly it was the most difficult day I've ever lived, I cried for days, moreso than when I lost my father.
It's always important to remember and take solace in that we give our pets a good life, and we, as their companions can choose to let them go with dignity and no suffering.....

Crap, I'm at work at crying now.

It's tough to lose a good pet.  When I finally left my ex, I couldn't take either of the cats.  Pretty Boy Floyd got all the abuse I left, and she traumatized him to the point where he had to be put down.  I talked to the vet, and was told the cat would never be able to socialize again, from what they saw.  I still get angry about it.  I think she ended up taking Sammie, who she liked because "he loved her best".   She's probably abused that cat by now, too.

It's probably better if I don't put what I think about this.  Simply horrible, though, to punish innocent animals.
