I just went snooping into security recording systems at eCost.com, and they have a number of them...some have no hard drive, and I'm not clear on how one fills that need...but hard drives are cheap.

Here's one under $200 that includes the hard drive... http://www.ecost.com/p/Zmodo-Security-Cameras/product~dpno~9418638~pdp.iadfcgh

Glad that things didn't turn out worse, as it's obvious they easily could have.

The scary part is the missing keys. Hopefully the safe deposit box key is not identifiable as to bank and box, and I wouldn't keep anything in my car if the spare key was missing. For that matter someone could drive away with it any time you aren't looking.

You should insist that the locks be changed again. Today.

Good Luck

Oh, and if you need a place to keep your Embassy safe, I'm only about an hour and a half away ;)

Thanks!  Hey, everyone - welcome Andy to our quirky bunch.

Thanks Gary. You still headed down here tonight? Nice night for a drive...

Andy - I'm heading out in about an hour or so.  We're one step closer to getting Hornisse his Guild Pilot.  I'm bringing money for a six pack for your help.

Glad it didn't turn out worse!

Excellent, I've had loads of fun picking up basses for Hornisse, Uwe and Carlo!

... I'm still trying to understand why someone would empty the duffle bag...

Easy to answer that one - a pro/am would look for something easily available that would be inconspicuous to carry out, filled with whatever they might find... it will be found with whatever they discard post going through what they took... SOP

Glad you are ok Gary.  Hope they can get to the bottom of it all.  Welcome Andy!  And yes Denis, I really appreciated you getting me the Curlee and Framus Nashville.  I still owe you big time. (as well as Gary and Andy!)   :)  Even Mark was nice enough to send a Peavey Fury to Texas from Seattle.  This is really a great place!

That's what I figured, but why did they leave both my digital camera, lock box and camcorder behind? All were right next to what they took.  Even my laptop would have been an easy grab.  Instead, they moved stuff around in my underwear drawer and took some of the least valuable things that were there?  I'm going to try and get my locks changes.  This was too bizarre and creepy.

Maybe they were just checking around to see what you had. Your place might get hit again. I'd make things happen and change the locks tomorrow!

Had a simillar break in a few years back.  The tore through the apartment like crazy and took a few things, but we were amazed that they left every guitar, bass, amp, etc.  There were some serious instruments, 50s Gretsches and Fenders, tweed amps.  They took the laundry change and wrist watches.  That was it.  The cops who came and took the report told us why: crack.  They don't bother taking electronics or guitars because they are heavy and you have to carry them. And you need a buyer.

Ouch, just read your story Gary.

Do do the locks, yesterday... as you say (and others), rather odd... specifics are "inside-job" territory - a (post) break-in clear-up I had to attend was re an alarm system that failed to go off when one singular item was stolen from a room - the perp climbed in, walked right past a DT (motion sensor that requires heat and motion to trigger an event) on a set system (unlike Mr & Mrs O, whose system I looked after at one point), and took a silver coffee pot (insurance value £5K) - must have had a military grade cape capable of hiding a heat signature... two properties in the same area were done in the same night - differing security companies - same MO... as I said, inside-job... Occam's Razor applies...

Be safe, Gary... be safe...

Locks are being changed on Monday.  I will be home and work from home Monday until I get new keys.
