Quite often actually. Not yet the new one, but the eighties reg one, my Custom Shop korina short scale, my pimped Epi - the only ones that haven't been gigged are the piezo one and the hamerisch Fakeplorer from the West Coast CS.

Explorers look cool - it's my Martin Turner thing. Martin Turner with his black Hamer Explorer in Converse Chucks on the Front Page News Tour in 1976/77 in Rüsselsheim - iconic. It left an imprint. Must get his new autobiography.

Thats one thing I like about Fbirds is the maple snap/ brightness it gives the sound. Thats why I sold my NR and kept my F bird.

Wow John, I didn't know you sold your non-rev! I'm afraid Mr. Pointy here is officially going to replace the F bird for me.

I realized today that the finish reminds me of Rickenbacker's AutumnGlo - the matte version of walnut. I've always loved that. Like a piece of furniture.

More "performance notes" - this thing was nowhere near set up/intonated. LOL! I've got it in much better shape now. Minor stuff for someone who's used to doing their own setups, but could be really off-putting to the average kid/novice. C'mon Gibson! Follow through...

I may have gone bananas...

There were 3 originals in the fifties? The owner of one of them had a "copy" made and eventually this ended up with you... either that or I've flipped...

Ken must be talking about your Giffin Explorer Bass.

I have John's old NR Thunderbird......it is now Inverness Green and reliced by RS GUITAR WORKS!!!!! And it is quickly becoming one of my Favorites!!!!

Oh, cool, I didn't know that was the old red bird! Nice to keep stuff "in the family".

Uwe, how do we say "pointy Thunderbird" in German? Man, this is one comfy instrument to play! Really resonates like crazy too. Total infinite sustaining harmonics through an overdrive with no squeal.

Pretty much what I thought of it too Tom.
A very cool bass largely ignored by the masses.

Eckiger (angular) or spitzer (pointy) Donnervogel!
